Can you tell me if my puppy have a problem with his breathing? He sleeps next to me at night, and he snores louder than my parents, he often grunts, instead of bark, is it normal for this breed

My Shih Tzu always had some breathing problems and would catch a sinus infection or head cold every winter. It's the same as a human sinus infection except dogs can't blow their noses or tell you when they have to sneeze!

As for the grunting, well my dog didn't bark at all until she was about four years old, and then it would only be a single bark - never more than one in a row.

The snoring and labored breathing at night is a common trait amoung this breed.

My Shih Tzu's do not snore or grunt but they are full grown. I adopted them when they were three years old. I'd call the vet and see if they think he should be brought in for a check up.

my shih tzu honks and snores and snorts and all those other lovely noises, i wouldn't worry too much about it unless it seems to bother her breathing then id call a vet, my vet said it was just from having such a short little face and almost no nose.
oh my.. i just read the poor fellas post who had three hard to train shih tzus....mine was VERY easy to house train, sounds like you got ahold of some stubborn guys lol. I wouldn't trade my shih tzu for anything in the world as far as train ability and friendliness. I'm sorry you had trouble with yours but as far as i can tell its not typical, luckily :)

Bracycephalic (flat-faced) dogs like Shih Tzus and pugs tend to snort, grunt, and/or snore more than most dogs.

I don't have a Shih Tzu, but my friend does, and even though when I go over to her house and don't see her very much, she did snort. Recently I pent the night at her house, and he puppy slept by me and she snorted and grunted. But just to make sure, I would consult with a vateranarian! And soon!

yeah, it happens because of their smushed cute faces. is it hot where you live? try not to keep puppy outside for too long and especially in direct sunlight and limit his exercise on really hot days. run him around inside with the air conditioner blasting, he'll love it!

That's common for short faced dogs. They tend to have respiratory issues.

Oh Yes! we had three of them. never again. They look pretty and they are very friendly BUT!! never again. I assume its a puppy now, but just wait until you try to housebreak it, Ha! what a joke. Ours would pee or poop anyplace anytime whenever it had the urge They really have no class. A salesperson came to our door and she walked up and just pooped a big load next to her shoe.
