I know you are supposed to take the course before you get a liscense, but will the person at the register just give me a liscense anyway?

If this is the FIRST time you are buying a hunting license in Pennsylvania, you are REQUIRED to take and pass a Hunter's Education Course ..BEFORE you are eligable to purchase a license. No exceptions, unless you have proof you have purchased licenses in the past. This law applies regardless of your age.

You dont have to have the course to get a license, but if you get caught by a game warden, you will wish that you had taken the course and gotten your certification. You should take the class, simply because of the reminder of safety. I have taken the class 3 times and I am always reminded of something that I forgot. Safety in not a one time thing. Its a constant. Hunting is much more fun when you do it safely. If you hurt someone or worse, thats not much fun...

My brother in law never took the course and they gave him a Pa hunting license I think if you are over 18 or maybe 21 they will just give it to you.

unless you have a hunting license from another state, or previously in PA you need the safety course no matter your age, PA Game commission does random checks in the field an buy computer license sale info, but no the person at the counter will most likely not ask to see it.

I was told that if you can produce a hunting license that you purchased previously in any year in which you hunted in your State you could get it without having to take the hunter safety course.*

you have to get one before you get any license, but I'm pretty sure that you just show them your license if your from out of state and they will give you tags for PA
