That would depend on what state you're in (or country, for that matter) and, in the U.S., whether or not you crossed a state or federal line transporting the weed, in which case you'd be eligible to be charged by the feds.

Look up NORMl, http://www.norml.org/ . They have information on penalties for specific amounts in specific states. Good luck to your friend, but I have to tell you, unless his case is thrown out on a technicality, 8 pounds will get him a lot of jail time in ANY state.

Your friend is on his way to a lo-oo-ong vacation at state expense! Lessee, eight pounds - and weed typically goes for $15 for a one-ounce bag of the ordinary, or $40 for sensimilla - that's from two to five thousand dollars worth of the stuff - many jurisdictions will class that as a major deal. Yo pal gonna be O*L*D when he gets out, honeychild!

He will serve time on this one, other than being charged with possession, he can also be charged with intent to sell and trafficking. The trafficking would be a federal charge.
I don't agree with it, but many judges hand down stiffer sentences for pot than they do for dangerous criminals.

With a prior theft conviction and possession with intent to sell (cuz nobody is going to smoke 8 pounds of pot, not even Cheech and Chong), he's going bye-bye. Get used to seeing him through plate glass.

Depends on whether the charges are State or Federal. In either case there is prison in his future.
It really isn't that much weed in the big scheme of things, but it won't be a slap on the wrist unless he agrees to testify against his supplier.

Ha ha! Some friend you have there. You always hang out with junkies? You're lucky you weren't with him when he got nailed or YOU would be looking at the same charges.

Tell him good luck in prison. You're going to be an old lady by the time he gets out!

Possession with intent to distribute. 5 to 10. Hopefully with his record he gets the 10.

Eight pounds of sticky icky is a lot of trouble. I would have to know the jurisdiction but possibly trafficking.
