I do love to gamble ... but not very often. I've gone about once a month, maybe once every two months since I've turned 21. I never take more than $100 to gamble with. I am not constantly thinking about gambling ... but I've been dreaming about it.

Am I obsessing about money? I've secretly wished I could win a large jackpot to help pay for college or a new car ... but many people do that. It's not always on my mind.

But I have dreams about slot machines and big jackpots a few nights a week. Any ideas?

Yes .. I know that $100 to gamble with sounds like a lot, but I do save a lot of my hard-earned money, and I tend to bring most of it back from the casino anyway. :)

First of all, dreaming of gambling is like dreaming of anything else. Anything is of your interest, you can dream about it.

In your case, you are not obsessing about money. If you obsessed about money, you probaby dream about money all the time rather than going through the process of wining from gambling.

Second, if you have no gambling problem in reality. That dream basically is telling you that subconsciously you are feeling that you are type of the person who likes to risk. Gambling is one of the ways to express your personalities. In other words, dreaming of gambling does not make you a obsessed gambler. It only reflects what you want in life. Especially you, you want to pay for things you need to pay off.

That in translation, you are feeling helpless in your current financial situation, but you want to risk. Basically, you had to vent out your feeling about the necessity in life, and you are very much in lack of it.

I've never taken as much as "$100 to gamble with"--well, in my mind, my wife thinks that my self-directed IRA is my gambling money because of the stocks I buy.

When I was younger, there were some popular images on TV and movies of geniis (like Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden on I Dream of Jeanie, and a fun thing with Burl Ives, etc.), and Robin Williams sparked a short-lived resurgence of interest when he did the voice and character inspiration in the Disney Aladin animations. The idea was getting something from nothing. Lotteries and casinos also get rich from people who bring their money and ambitious dreams along. But finding arabic oil lamps that sprout benevolent magical creatures when rubbed are a whole lot less likely than plunking in a coin and pulling the handle of the 'one-armed bandit.'

Dream and enjoy, just don't confuse some night's wonderful imaginative moment with a cosmic green light to bet the farm. In your night's dream you can throw caution to the wind, but your wakeful moments demand realism. Essentially this, if you stand in front of the casino with cash 'just itching to be played' look straight up and visualize you flying to the top of the building or its towering sign. Then look around--if you just made the magical leap, it is okay to bet a bundle--otherwise, just a tiny bit and stop. Fair enough?
