Now, in a most spiritual manner, and yes, some of you catholics and jews can come in as well, would you care to join me for lunch? We are having pork chops,( well, for our Judaic friends, some fried chicken) , with a side of grits piled high with a whole stick of butter melting on top. A mess of hush puppies and some greens, collard greens, been steaming in the kitchen all day, with bits of salt jawl and a pinch of paprika. Cover the whole lot with a drizzling of red-eye gravy and for desert, aunt fireballs delicious cobbler. Apples, cinnamon, a smattering of blueberries, and half a package of red-hots. To wash it all down with, we have some ice cold lemonade (adults and atheists, join me by the shed for a shot of vanilla vodka). Now, you fundamentalists, if you would like to join us for lunch, then praise be. But, really, I know you prefer the company of "strangers"

That's a heart attack waiting to happen.

How about a salad with shaved almonds, crumbled goat cheese and dried cranberries, with raspberry vinaigrette, some grilled salmon, lightly seasoned with Durkee's Old Hickory Smoked Salt, some crunchy asparagus with Hollandaise. You can add sourdough rolls (if you have access to real sourdough bread (like proximity to San Francisco and a very small section of Boston)). The butter goes there. For dessert, fresh blackberries, raspberries and blueberries on a bed of French Vanilla yogurt. Drinks, with the salad, just water; with the salmon, a Parducci Pinot Noir or Gewurtztramminer; with the dessert, coffee with heavy cream and a shot of Kahlua.

I don't know if I'm that hungry. Besides, I only get half an hour for lunch - that sounds like a full on feast.

I have to admit, I've never had grits or collard greens, I'm not sure what hush puppies or salt jawls are, and I don't think lemonade would go well with the pork chops - I'd prefer a Coke.

So, I think I'll stick with my boring peanut butter sammich today, but thanks for the invite!

Yeeeehaw! I kin feel my arteries rejoicing and my brain cells dying already. 'Course all that fiber from the greens and grits makes it not so bad fer a feller or a gal Praise be! If Agnostics ain't welcome, I'll just put on my Backsliding Bear Shaman gear.

But be careful, old son. Putting out a spread like that is coming perilously close to proving that there IS a God.

This isn't one of them Christian Tricks, now is it? Like back in the Day when they used to invite Jews to a feast, then bar the doors and set the hall on fire? I always hated that. But, if you keep your head, you can usually get out with some freshly smoked meats.

Oh, and don't go spoiling all that great food with a sissy drink like vanilla vodka. I'll put in $20 toward a case of "Shine."

I'll pass on the grits, but the chops, hush puppies and greens sound like a meal that I could sink my teeth into! (light on the gravy though....)

I'm not much into lemonade, but if I can have some of that vanilla vodka in my chicory-laced coffee......

I'm sure it's all quite delicious but as a vegetarian I will have to pass.

Thaks for the offer, though.

...ok, maybe a bit of the cobbler, unless fireball used lard in the dough.

Auntie Fireball's cobbler sounds.. interesting! Never had grits or salt jawl before (I don't even know what salt jawl is), but I'm feeling adventurous :) Count me in!

Only if you have good music, we would have to drown out the singing in the background...."if you don't eat pig and I don't eat pig, lets - not eat pig together". Oh and I prefer plain vodka in my lemonade.

Sounds good except the vodka.
