My fiance and I are going to Sedona (we live in Phoenix) It's only a couple hours away and we are staying at a beautiful resort there (look into going to a resort during the week - you can get some great deals) and are going to have nice dinner and get massages. We're saving money because we don't have to buy flights, passports, pay for a rental car or taxi fares, etc.
I don't know where you're located, but look into some of the more scenic areas within driving distance and stay at a nice hotel/cabin/B&B for a few days during the week.

Find a nice hotel nearby and stay a nite or two. Have meals delivered to your room, or eat at a quiet restaurant. Bed and breakfast places are very popular and seem to be all over the place. You can spend a nite or more and enjoy the peace and quiet. Most, if not all meals are prepared for you.

my husband and I went to Gatlinburg Tenessee. It is the quaintest litte town that was a 6 hour drive away. We borrowed a nice car off his car lot (his bosses gift to us. LOL) for the week and we stayed at this resort called Hidden Mountain. Each Cabin was decorated in a different theme, like there was one decorated all in apples, one was like the 3 bears and goldilocks cabin, and we stayed in the CHRISTMAS CABIN. There were fireplaces in every room and all the dishes and decor were red and green and there was a tree set up in the living rooM! We brought gifts with us, one for each day we were there to give to each toher and every night we opened one. They weren't expensive, my husband got all mine from cracker barrel (I love that place), jarred candies, a small jewelry box, ect... it was incredibly romantic and we had a great time, CHEAP!

You should get a tourist book fro your area--you won't believe all the things there are to do just a short drive away...go somewhere an hour away or so, rent a room and check out the sights in the area....

trip to beach-maybe dinner or weekend overnighter, where you can listen to waves all night - Pismo beach don't know what state you're in. camping for weekend is good. or if you're the room service kind of folks - rent a room in a really nice local hotel-get massages in room together, then a excellent meal and Champagne to mark the special occasion. then there's always weekend trips to Vegas for cheap-package deals -best of luck hope this helps

We are renting a cabin in the mountains. It is cheaper than a hotel, more privacy, and we can prepare our own meals.
