I'm 19, graduated high school '07 just started working at macys to pay for college but the pay really isn't enough ($7h). I wanted to get a Job working somewhere close to home, get experience w/ animals, and pay for college. Parents really can't help me money wise and I would feel guilty asking even if they had the money to send me. I can't find anything in ads or online. Question is where should I be looking; am I looking in the wrong places? Most clinics or animal hospitals are full and don't really need any help. Are there any other places that I can get real hands on experience w/ animals other than where I am looking. I'm getting sick of working retail it is just not me. I wouldn't mind making minimum wage if I was doing something I loved and making a real difference. Even if I put forth effort no one really cares.

THIS IS JUST DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!
I want a real job, my dream job I really don't mind hard work. Something like kennel work is what i want to do.

Why not try the Humane society, Even ask to volunteer until a position opens up. Sometimes it's hard to get these job, but sometimes it's better to sacrifice your time to volunteer and get the knowledge then go without.
You can also ask any local Vet if they have an intern plan, you again won't get paid, but you're going to learn.
Or I'm sorry to say if worse comes to worse you are going to have to move.

While i am not in the UK, if the economy is anything like the US, yes, even min wage jobs are hard to come by. There are more adults out of work, taking the jobs teenagers traditionally would take. Employers would prefer adult workers, because they are less likely to call out, and more likely to be responsible, and do their job, seeing as how they need the money (where as most teens still have mom and dad paying their bills). As far as handing cv's, the way it works here, is that everyone is ALWAYS accepting applications, FEW people are actually hiring. They do this so they can have a pile of apps to choose from when someone quits. More flexible hours would probably help her. Also make sure she is talking to managers when handing in the app, dressing appropriately for picking up and handing in an app, role play typical interview questions and answers, etc.

how about trying rescue shelters? and if you really want to work with animals try looking getting into school to become a vet technician...look in community colleges for any vet tech programs, as vocational schools tend to cost a lot of money. good luck
