I used olive green along with sharkskin colored walls and tan carpeting. So I guess that it's a cool neutral color.

Olive green can be both a cool color and a warm color it depends on the other colors. If you go cool for example...olive green sofa, light gray walls, medium gray carpet and black end tables. If you go warm for example...olive green sofa, khaki tan/brown carpet, rust or burnt pumpkin color on the walls and wood end tables. There is no rule for mixing warm and cool colors. Usually by the time you finish picking out the final details of the room you will find that you have ended up with either warm or cool without trying.

I would go with slate gray walls and a light brown carpet color.

With olive green, you can dress it up warm or cool (neutral). Warm colors look ok too, if that's your style. With olive green, you can try red for the walls and do a wood flooring with a big furry rug. Lots of metallics would soften the red and give a sparkle to the olive green.

But IMO, stick with simple, classy colors. :)

I'd consider olive green a warm color as it has undertones of yellow. If the undertones were blue, then it would be a cool color. Back with olive green was fashionable before, my mother had warm colors with it.....I remember a gold brocade couch, walls were a warm white, but she fell down on a third color. I remember teal-blue throw pillows and not liking them. Probably because teal is cool..

I was just at the Sherwin-Williams website. They had two examples of "olive green" in their various layouts. One was the warm olive green and it was teamed with a terracotta orange and a deep russet red. The other, a cool "olive green" with blue undertones was with a light periwinkle blue (I think) on a cartoon like car drawing. Go over to the site and zip around. There's a color section allowing you to play with different color combinations. Sorry, I don't remember what they call it.

Olive green is NOT a neutral colour, although it could be used to ACCENT an earthy, neutral scheme (eg. taupe and chocolate brown)

It is definatly in the "cool" group of colours (blues, greens and violets). So I think that those are the colours to go for, particularly lilac and aubergine... with dark wood and copper accessories!!

And don't worry about it being too cool. Cool colour schemes don't have to be dark and depressing, they can be rich, opulent, and elegant... and just as exciting as warm colour scheme.

avocado and burnt orange look good together, orange-reds and yellowish golds.

no if it is too neutral you can add a splash of color, too warm can be toned down and to cool can be softened.

There is lots of free advice out there - get some.
