I'm not gay, but I just find it hard to believe that God would send someone to Hell based soley on that reason, ignoring the kind of person that they are. We are all sinners and if all sinners went to hell, there would be noone in Heaven.

You are absolutely right. Homosexuals are sinners, exactly like the rest of us. And therefore every one of us deserves to go to hell. The whole point of Christianity is that God has provided the way to NOT go to hell even though we deserve it.

So yes, homosexuals deserve hell, just as heterosexuals do. The question is whether they understand it and cry out for salvation from God.

This is a difficult question for anyone to answer, and anyone attempting to do so is opening themselves up for ridicule. Nevertheless, here I go:

First you must understand that there is a difference between "being" something (i.e., having a proclivity for it) and "doing" something (i.e., actively participating in it).

In regard to the above, in your question there is a difference between someone who says they were born a certain way, or born with a proclivity to do or be something, and someone who actively seeks the object of their proclivity. One can say that they are "born" homosexual (I say this in quotes because it's a claim and not something I believe but I'm willing to use it for the sake of the question) but they STILL have a choice as to whether they engage in homosexual behavior.

Now I know at this point homosexuals will say "so being a heterosexual you think you have a choice?????".

Yes. I am a heterosexual. But being "born" so, or being "made" so, or developing that bent does NOT take away my CHOICE of behavior. I can NOT have sex if I choose. The point is, if I saw heterosexuality as a sin, I would choose NOT to do it, or (being human) at the very least choose to do everything in my power to avoid it, and ask God to help me as I struggle with it. One can make a case that there are those who are "born" to lots of ugly forms of behavior (i.e., those who want to have sex with kids, or cleptomaniacs, or being "born" with the tendency to be alcoholic, etc...) but does that mean the behavior should be acceptable?

So....if you say you "are" something (i.e., you "are" homosexual) and therefore you are FORCED to behave thusly, you are excusing not just the sin of homosexuality but lots of other sins as well.

Also, you need to understand that there IS a difference between the sin and the sinner. Those who truly follow Christ DO love the sinner while hating the sin. Also, all sin is the same in the sight of God, so engaging in a homosexual act is just as bad as cheating on your (heterosexual) spouse. ALL sin is disobedience against God, and there is no "sliding scale" of bad when it comes to sin.

That said, God does NOT send anyone to hell for "being" homosexual. Or for "being" a liar. Or for "being" an alcoholic, a smoker, a cheat, a pornographer, a murderer, or a child molester.

PEOPLE choose hell themselves by CHOOSING to live a life of sin and rejecting God. That takes a great many forms. Maybe it's living a homosexual lifestyle or molesting children, or living an atheistic life......

The bottom line is, God doesn't send us to hell for being human. He allows us the choice of heaven for turning to Him as sinners and following His path, or the choice of hell for turning away from Him as sinners.

It doesn't really matter WHY or HOW we turn away; just that we do.

Dear Beatnick,

People go to hell because they do not have a Saviour. Homosexuality (sodomy) is a sin just as stealing is a sin. The fact of the matter is that ALL of us have broken God's commandments (law). We are lawbreakers and sinners. The penalty for 1 sin is to spend eternity under the wrath of God (in hell). If you do not have a substitute to stand-in for you to pay the penalty, then you have to pay it yourself. That is why every person needs Jesus Christ. He is the Only that could pay the penalty and come out alive and victorious. The Bible tells us in Matthew 22:14, "For many are called, but few are chosen." The "chosen" refers to those (elect) whom Christ paid the penalty.

Many people think that Christ paid for the sins of every single person, but this is not true. Isaac and Rebekkah has twin sons. One was named Esau and the other, Jacob. Here is what God tells us about their eternal destinies: "10And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

11(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

12It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." (Romans 9:10-15).

I do not believe it either. Homosexuality is not a worse sin than any other sin. That is solid biblical doctrine. All sins are the same.

Anybody who accepts Christ as their Saviour and Lord, I believe, goes to Heaven.

What gets me is "good" fundamentalist Christians who get divorced and then throw stones at homosexuals. The two sins are both sexual sins and both equally bad in God's eyes.

God also freely forgives both equally. Jesus died on the cross to pay for everyone's sins. Mine too, I believe no Christian has the right to criticise homosexuality when divorce is so rampant in the church.

I guess that depends on who you believe God to be. The God of the Bible or some God that you concieved in your head. The Bible clearly teaches that any sin is so repungent to God that payment for it is hell. It's a hard concept to grasp I know. We live in and around sin all the time, we become desensitized to it. We need to remember who God is. He is Holy beyond our understanding of the word. Sin is a violation of who God is, and God is just. Payment must be made. Homosexualitiy is no different from other sins in this respect. A little white lie will condemn man to hell just as murder will. Granted they are not equal is the degree of sinfulness, but any sin seperates man from God. You mention that if all have sinned then all sinners would be in hell and no one would be in heaven. That would be what we deserve, but God saw it fit to save us. That is why He sent Jesus, to die for our sins as the perfect sacrifice. The debt we owed to God by our sins was paid for by Christ. Christ satisfied the justice of God and made it possible for us to be reconciled to Him. Jesus now offers us salvation from our sins if we would simply accept it. It is a free gift that we could never earn ourselves. All that is required of us is to believe and turn from sin. Belief itself is not enough, we must also turn and follow Jesus. For man to go to heaven, to be saved from the second death, he must in a sense die to himself. Leave what he was before behind and follow Christ. That is the only way to get to Heaven. If not for Jesus you would be correct in saying that everyone would go to hell. If you have any questions shoot me an email, I hope this wasn't too long-winded. It was a very complex question that you posed.

They have the same chance of going to heaven as the rest of us sinners. All they have to do is accept Jesus and repent and ask for forgiveness of their sins.

I really believe that homosexuals don't choose to be that way...it is just instinct/nature. They are not bad people..and neither are hetrosexuals. It is there choosing and that is fine. I just don't like when either couple flaunts it in public. Save private times for in private...

Nope...everyone goes to heaven if you are kind and loving..and tried to lead your life to the best of your ability.

The ONLY reason the soul of any mortal will end up in hell is for rejecting God.... you reject God by not coming to Him in The Way He prescribes..... homosexual or hetro... it dose not matter... The sin debt of ALL has been paid in full... it all comes down to accepting God or rejecting Him.... no one can make up their own way to God... ALL must come to God in The Way He has provided... no exceptions...

There is only one criteria that will be used as determining who or who will not go to hell. And that is whether or not the individual's name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. (Ref. Rev. 20:15)

God loves the individual, however, their behavior and life choice will lead them into bondage that will harden their hearts to God's eternal salvation. Because Homosexuality involves so much emotional investment, it is almost impossible to tell the them the truth without being labeled with very harsh epithets.

The sin of homosexuality is no blacker than my sin. And if the Christian truly hated homosexuals, they would keep the message of salvation to themselves, not try to change them, and let them go on their merry way to destruction. But because we care, we take the slings and arrows of 90% of the media and public to speak the truth.

According to the Bible, Sodom was destroyed because they mistreated, strangers, widows, and orphans. The homosexual spin was not added until many centuries AD.

In fact, many translators must have had dirty minds to severely mis-interpret the meaning in the story of Lot of the townspeople wanting to "get to know" the angels.

It is hard to imagine an entire town (including women and children) to want to have random sex with a strange visitor to your town. It is much easier imagine an entire town that had just recovered from a war wanting to inspect a strange visitor that just snuck into town.
