Ok, I am 22 years old...5'8" tall....and I weigh 165 lbs. I want to lose 30 lbs before next summer comes. I don't have the money to pour into these weight loss plans and groups and diet pills and remedies!! I have to do it the old fashion way. So here is the diet I am thinking.
Breakfast: 1 orange and a glass of 1% milk
Snack: Homemade Fruit Smoothie
Lunch: 1 can of Progresso Soup (I love these!!!!)
Snack: Cheese Slices with Crackers and lowfat Ranch
Dinner: 500 calorie meal
Late Night Snack: 1 orange and a glass of 1% milk
And if I exercise atleast 30 minutes a day on an eliptical machine.
Do you think I can lose 1-2 pounds a week with this diet or am I dreaming? I really want to lose weight but I don't want to have to go to extremes. Please give me your honest opinion. I appreciate all your help and tips. Thanks!!!

I see alot of you recommending weight watchers. I need to be able to stick to a dinner that all my family will enjoy. My husband works all day and me and the kids eat different lunches but we all sit down and eat dinner together. It's to much of a hassle to cook 2 different dinners. What kind of food does weight watchers entail. Thanks for all the tips I'm getting!!

I think it sounds really good and sensible - not like some people who have decided to survive on diet coke.
Maybe cut out the Cheese Slices on Crackers and have fruit instead? And drink lots of water because it makes your appetite lessen!
Good luck :)

Try to limit alcohol intake, it makes losing weight difficult.
Exercise is probably more important than diet, over time if you maintain 30 min every day, that alone will very likely make you lose about a pound every 2 weeks by itself. Though exercise converts some fat into muscle so at first exercise and at the same time expected weight loss wont happen.
The diet seems good though at 5'8" I would say you probably look really good right now at 165 lbs. Though you would probably feel more attractive at 150.
I would say if dinner is 500 calories then all should be good with the meal, though a 500 calorie frozen meal tends to slow down metabolism. Eating steamed vegetables with grilled or baked chiken breast for dinner is a good meal choice. Also eating canned tuna fish and steamed veggies is good as well. Another good dinner is a 4 ounce portion of salmon with some vegetable placed inside an aluminum foil pouch and cooked in oven for 20 minutes on 375.
Also make sure to avoid sweets, chips, sweet drinks like soda and such.
Some people find better results by eating a protien bar for breakfast.
Also 10 glasses of water a day is too much, a person should drink around 32 ounces of water a day, thats about 3 or 4 glasses. Filling yourself with water tends to make you feel bloated and also can make you hungry as the stomach is full, but has nothing to digest.

I think that that is a very good diet I would kick up your caloric intake at dinner just a bit tho, and you may want to think about doing more protien as this will help you build muscle integrity and burn fat. Excersise of course needs to be a part of any healthy diet and you may want to include the protein part in your snacks, do not make your night snack late, and drink tons of water. Hope this helps
P.S. About the no money to use a diet program I have a couple of thoughts, One look into a program that will allow you to not only purchase your products at a discount but also help others lose weight or get healthy and make money.
I listed a couple of websites below. Hope this helps

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

I don't see any veggies in your diet, so it's not healthy. You can look on-line and find some healthy diets that include all the food groups you need and still be able to lose weight. I highly recommend Weight Watchers. They are offering free registration now, so even if you joined and got the program down, you could continue on your own without paying.
For me, Weight Watchers was the only way I ever lost weight.
Good luck to you!

30 minutes every day on an eliptical would probably burn you anywhere from 350-500 calories (depending on intensity of exercise). If you worked harder and burned say 500 calories in a 30 min workout (I may be higher becuase I weigh 245 so I require more work to do the workout...), then 7 workouts would be 3500 calories or 1 lb in a week (losing 1 lb is 3500 calories). As long as you are giving your body the necessary fuel (when your body needs to eat, it eats muscle before fat), then 1-2 lbs a week is a very reasonable goal, and would be a healthy way to reach your target weight. I would recommend adding at least light resistance workouts to your routine as well (when you do this i.e. lifting weights, your metabolism continues to churn at a higher rate for one to a few hours after your workout, while your metabolism gets back to normal fairly quickly after a cardio workout).
Cucufate made a good point I forgot to mention. Make sure to drink plenty of water.

Young lady. You need structure in your daily eating habits. This is a way of life. Not just some thing you nibble on now and then. If you really want to maintain your body in a long term and caring way....join Weight Watchers ! Don't be stubborn and think you know it all. That will be your downfall.
Weight Watchers has been around for a long, long time. Why? Because it works ! My first week in the 26 week program I lost 8 1/2 pounds !
Call your local W.W. for details. You will be glad you did.
You will thank me in the long run !

Add up you calories to be sure you are getting at least 1200 calories per day. You are not dreaming as you have included 3 low cal meals and all of your snacks however I would consider making sure you get enough protein in your diet. If you want a good resource book to help you get The Diet For Teenagers Only book. Even though you are not a teen it has everything you need to know in it. I bought it for my daughter as she wanted it and she made me read it so I know it is a good book.

I think that diet is really good, but it would be better if you eat on sundays only fruits and water. During all the week you must to drink a lot of waer. At least eight glasses every day.
Don't forget to do a lot of exercise, minimum one hour dialy, including weekends.
And if you more an extra help, like medicines, to look better, you can visit this website to get more information:

This sounds like it could work.
The key to shedding pounds each week is to ensure you are burning more calories then you are taking in. Make sure you eat low calorie low fat food and keep track of how many calories you burn on the elliptical machine, if you aren't losing as quickly as you would like maybe mix in a 40-45 minute workout a couple times a week to kick up your calorie burning and you will also feel fit.
Good Luck!
