second question............how can I check which one I currently have? It just says Windows Media Player?

The latest version is WMP 11.
By right-clicking on the icon in the top left corner you will be able to see the 'help tab' and then if you click the 'about WMP' will show the current version installed on your computer.

windows media player 11 is the newest........ u can get it from the microsoft update site....... go to start control pannel security centre automatic updates then click windows update website it will take u there then in the search bar on the site type in windows media player 11.... download and install it copies all your music automaticaly and over rides ur old media player...

Open media player, click HELP menu, select "Check for updates"
if there is a new one, it will download it for you
