I'm not talking about those thin horizontal blinds you see at old motels, but the wooden looking kinds. Most apartments use vertical blinds, but I've seen the at fancy houses too. The horizontal blinds I'm refering to are the wider ones. In your opinon, which one looks classier for an entire house?

You guys all rock! I wasn't sure and my hubby did tell me the faux wood blinds are way cooler (that's when we ended up going with for the house). I just wanted to see everyone's thoughts. Thanks, team!

I think these days the wide horizontal blinds look classier .
of course it depends on the window and the quality of the blinds you buy , its definitely not something you want to skimp on .

The nice horizontal blinds. Vertical blinds make it feel like an office. Some of the nice wooden horizontal blinds can look very classy.

I recently bought shutters for my house. They are more expensive, but are definitely "classier." I have pets and I just didn't like the cords that shades have. It is also easier to open and close shutters than blinds. Having said that, the horizontal blinds are way classier. If you go to model homes, you will see that vertical blinds aren't used in homes anymore. If you use them, you will give your house a "dated" look. I asked about blinds, when I decided on shutters, and they confirmed that vertical blinds aren't used much anymore.

Vertical blinds now come in lots of materials-I am thinking of bamboo or wood verticals for a huge window I have in my living room that will be hard to cover otherswise. I just don't like horizontal blinds-they were in every place I have rented and they always seem cheap looking and don't fair well against 2 cats, dog, small kids. Veritcal blinds can also give you a boost in the R value of the window.

The vertical blind can reduce, divert and even completely bock the rays of the sun. The vertical blinds will save your furniture and save you the time and cost of having to have it recovered. Vertical blinds can save you money in other ways. By reducing the rays of the run that enter into rooms the heat index will also start to drop. During the summer months you will save on electric and air conditioning costs. Savings of up to 20 percent are not uncommon with good strong vertical blinds. Vertical blinds can also help save money during the winter months as well. By keeping the windows covered with a good, strong vertical blind, less heat will escape. This will be reflected in lower heat and fuel bills.

The horizontol blinds with the broad blades are much more showy in the windows. The ones sold at Home Depot or Lowes is called "Faux wood" ...which really means FAKE wood....they are a heavy vinyl and looks cool!

I think the verticle ones look like they belong in an office building. The horizontal ones are okay, but curtains are much cozzier.

Forget using blinds, just use old newspapers and sellotape and save yourself a small fortune.
