Unfortunately when you buy a copy of windows xp from microsoft you are paying for the cd and the licence allowing you use of the product. If it was sold without the key then the seller (or whoever has the cdkey) still owns the licence to the product so effectively you have bought the files which comprise xp but not a license to run it.

This product would be useful for someone who had lost their xp pro cd but, as far as i know, you will not be able to obtain a cd key.

You could always phone Microsoft and see what they say.

The only legitimate way of doing this is by contacting Microsoft, tell them what you've done, the contact details of the seller, and pay for a new product key ... i.e., the same price as you would have if you'd bought a legitimate copy in the first place.

If the eBay seller claims that it's an original, genuine copy of Windows XP Pro, then s/he has broken the law by selling it minus the product key. I would suspect that s/he has installed this copy on another machine so, would again, have been breaking the law.

Contact Microsoft. If you can prove that you have purchased a genuine copy, they will re-issue you a product key.

Since you bought this on ebay, it may not be easy to prove you have a genuine copy however. A genuine copy usually comes in a box and has a product code sticker on it.

At least it won't hurt to contact Microsoft. And even if they won't give you a new product code, they may offer a good discount price to buy one. I have seen them do this before.

No. You need the exact unique key that matches your copy. and the sticker copy only works with the original install. What did you do with that disk?
