The rest of us do right simply because it is right, no "eternal damnation" necessary. The only reason I can see that anyone would say such a thing, is that they speak from their own feelings. Is religion the only thing keeping these people from going postal?

Pamela V: Christians are the ones who keep making this asinine statement. After they make a comment so utterly stupid and outrageous, how is it that I "mock and ridicule" by asking for an explanation? Is this yet another example of the persecution complex epidemic?

Enigma, I agree with you. I'm not religious yet I don't drink, I don't do drugs, haven't stolen anything or beaten anyone up. I volunteer my time and help out where I'm needed. I do the right thing because it's the right thing to do! NOT because I'm going to go to hell if I don't. I don't believe that most people are evil at heart.

And how many wars have been started in the name of one god or another? Religion causes a lot more problems in the world than atheism does. (Playing devil's advocate there, because I'm not against religion. I just don't feel we'd fall apart if there was no religion.)

Well think about it Enigma. When you look at the world we live in does it really look that good and stable. Much of it is ravaged by disease like AIDS because of sexual promiscuity. People are at war at an increasing level. And crime is on the rise. Most of the planet is poverty stricken due to the greed of a few.

So the obvious answer to your question is a resounding yes. Without obedience to the Father's commandment of love, the planet has gone 'nuts'. But, fasten your seat belt because it will get worse. Wait til we get hit with another terrorist attack and start to really feel the effects of climate change. Even science can vouch for the latter.

Some have it easy over here. They don't understand the magntude of the situation facing the planet they live on. So it's easy to sit back and think about how great the world is. Americans are so caught up in their own desires they don't realize how much suffering their fellow Americans and their fellow mankind are going through.

The fact is that many people don't live in reality. Because they are so blinded by the false sense of security built upon a pleasure principle. I feel good so all is well! They play HALO and forget about the real soldier taking fire in Iraq. They eat at Applebees and forget about the starving children in Southeast Asia. They go to the club to have sex and forget about becoming an AIDS statistic. Don't your let your comfort zone deceive you.

The Ten Commandments are based on love. Love for the Father and love for your fellow man. If this can't be followed the result will continue to be what we have in the world today. Without a solid foundation of right and wrong the truth becomes relative. In other words only when convenient will people do what's right. But, in this world it has become more 'convenient' to do what's wrong. And we've been reaping the rewards of this fallic 'relative truth' system.

So no, we don't speak on the basis of our 'own feelings'. We speak on behalf of what's going on in the world. The real world. And we pray for a change, and that all will come to live in truth.

Do you think it is right to come into this site and mock and ridicule other people? I was raised not to do that sort of thing. Is religion keeping me from going postal? What is that?

A system of behavioural control based on fear of punishment and promise of reward is not morality, by any definition. To have true morality you really need to be an atheist... or at least, to follow a religion which acknowledges morality as being a subjective matter based on conscience, rather than merely following orders.

Yes, handsome, it is the pastor who keeps them from raping the next door neighbor.

My mind is going there in another context but I'll keep it to myself.

So what you are saying that if all the murderers, rapist, robberers, etc, followed God's law and what Jesus taught us about loving one another, they would still do all those bad things, I think not. It seems to me that God is the last thing on their minds, which is the problem.

I agree that many people do things simply because they are "right" yet where did this sense of "right" come from?

I believe that it is God born in each one of us.
