Yes - our benevolent Government does it's best to make sure we pay through the nose for everything in UK .. and should we have the cheek to order from outside EU they slap a 'little bit extra' on top.

A lot of USA / Honk Kong etc. sellers don't bother to highlight this since if confuses the American customers (and maybe it's not such a bargain after you added 20% + on top after all)

NB. FedEx (or who ever) also slaps on a handling charge ...

Yes, this is normal practice, you haven't been ripped off if thats what your worried about.

I know that UPS have a contract to collect these custom charges, in the end its more convenient for you as you still get the package delivered to your house, and don't have to send payment up to customs.

Its also down for you to know, every country has different rules and customs charges etc, so a website can't list them all. If you buy anything from overseas stores you will have to pay import duty on them.

Nearly incomprehensible, but I think I can guess what your asking. If you purchase goods from abroad through the Internet you should be aware that customs duty and VAT will be payable, as follows:

Customs duty - if the amount of duty is £7 and over.
Import VAT - if the value of the goods is £18 and over.
