My good man, the fact that emotions can be explained with reference to chemical reactions does not invalidate them for the human experience. Yeah - it IS a chemical reaction that causes you to feel "love" when you "look into a child's eyes" or whatever. Does that invalidate love, because we've figured out certain things about its physiological basis?
By the way, I'm sorry that your feeling of superiority to your dog is threatened by the realization that a similar physiological basis underlies its consciousness; but again, I think you're just looking at this the wrong way, because you're only trying to defend a "religious" idea that has no basis in fact.
Actually, though, the whole process is perfectly mysterious after all. Science has shed light on physiology as it relates to psychology; but we still can't actually explain how consciousness arises from (or with) the changes in the brain. There's an evident gap between "mind" and "matter." The best we can really say is that "these physical changes occur simultaneously with a change in emotional state."

Science tells you the way things are. Religion will give you the warm, fuzzy answer.
Just because the feeling of love *is* indeed a chemical process, that doesn't make the emotion any less real. Why turn it into something it's not, just because you like the answer better?
I think this is the crux of why so many people cling to religion, even when logic tells them otherwise. They simply *prefer* the answers religion gives them.
This must be how Galileo felt when he promoted the heretical idea of a heliocentric solar system. The church threatened to execute him and eventually put him under house arrest. Why? For showing that the Earth was not at the center of the universe. He wasn't trying to undermine religion ... his finding was just THE WAY THINGS WERE. The scientists just have to keep fighting the same battle, it seems, century after century.

Well, we could do an experiment.
Look at the multitude of cases involving brain trauma that has resulted in some sort of change in the way a person loves. Strangely enough, there are some.. We could also take into account the way drugs interact with love.
So yep, that that looks to be fairly correct.
And when I hold my 19 month old child into my arms, and look into her incredibly cute face.. I am awed by it.. That such chemicals reactions could produce such a lovely feeling.. It makes it no less of a sacred bond than if I felt such a feeling belonged to something else.

Praise God. I don't know what your motives are but, I praise God for leading you to share the Word with those of us who WANT to hear it. So much evil is running amuck in R&S so it's very refreshing to my soul to read His word. I'm just thankful I'm not Judas. I do hope that provision was made for his horrible episode with a major case of backsliding to forgive him when he had to do it for scripture to be fulfilled. The will of God would surely provide the grace so desperately needed to save Judas. Thank you again Rose. How about an encore for those of us who WANT to hear more. Don't give any thumbs down a second thought. Praise God! Jesus is Lord! Merry Christmas!!!

The chemical component is stronger in romantic love. Familial love is a limbic response, and more electrical in nature.
The effect of love is to magnify the sense of worth or importance of another. It is not surprising that there is some bleed-over effect and amplifies our sense of the significance of the emotion itself.

well...
to me
love is not about cells or whatever
it is about the feeling u have towards someone
a force that compels a person into doing things towards another person without thinking...good things
such as showing care and concern to ppl
risking everything just so that the person can be safe
even if it means giving up ur own life
that is what love is about to me

"The brain has 6 basic funtions: Creative Visual, Emotional, Executive planning, Language, Memory, Social."
Please cite a source for this claim. It is not of your creation and it is out of context. I think you will find your brain quite involved in moving your body, sensing sensations and many other things not described in your claim. Again, I ask you, cite a source....or are you just making things up?
Love is love. God is god. The words mean different things.

I fail to see why love has to be either from your god or from a chemical reaction. It could be something else.

Nope it's not something different. And the god of the bible doesn't behave in a very loving way, genocidal, jealous and proud of it, petty, jilted lover that he is.
