Ahmedinecad is to speak in Georgetown University. The university officials say, they would let even Hitler voice his opinions. But this same Georgetown University prevents the Armenian patriarch to speak.
Please, someone explain to me why freedom of speech doesn't exist when anyone other than the diaspora Armenians want to speak. It was their own spiritual leader, for God's sakes? Not mention the fact that they donot let anyone opposing their views speak...

I must have heard it wrong, because Ahmedinecad is to speak in Columbia and Georgetown cancelled the Patriarch's speech. But the principle remains.

This is called 'democracy and freedom of speech my style' lol. It is not hard to understand. Armenians live close to each other, that is in the same electoral district. Therefore, American politicians take them seriously (!) in order to get their votes. e.g. California. Also some Armenians are influencial (financially) and they can persuade (!) institutions to change their minds and principles.
Obviously the Patriarch was not going to use the word genocide. And the diaspora did not like that.

Freedom of speech in any place and any situating exists within the paradigm of the interest group that holds majority of opinions. I mean at least it is my opinion... There had been conferences on the issue, where Turkish views were also spoken about. Yet, I am not sure how this can benefit a talk since a talk has to be about and on opposing factors, or ideas within the academic world. This than is not a talk, yet a statement on one particular view.

In the United States
No one has an obligation to give you a platform for your opinions.
No one can arrest you just for stating or publishing your opinions.
If the university invited him to speak, they have the right to cancel the invitation. No one else has the right to make them cancel it. The university does not have to let him speak if they don't want to. He can still say whatever he wants to and not go to jail.
A newspaper does not have to publish every letter they receive. If you want to publish your views, you are free to do it, and you cannot be jailed or punished by the law, just for doing that.
Telling someone to "shut up!" is not violating their freedom of speech. Putting them in jail for speaking their opinion is violating their freedom of speech.
If the government officials tell the university that they can't have speakers on certain topics, then we have a real problem. As long as it's the university making their own decisions, that's still well within their rights.

First off, it's Columbia University in which Ahmadinejad visited today. I don't know whether he invited himself or Columbia University invited him, so you can't say that we allowed him his freedom of speech if he's the one that wanted to come. In that case, how could we have said no to a guy who hates our country? It would only put hateful tensions between the US and Iran. Secondly, I haven't heard of the Armenian patriarch not being able to speak. Like I said, Ahmadinejad probably invited himself and it's not like the University picks and chooses who to invite. When they mentioned that they would allow Hitler to speak, they were probably saying that they would allow HIM to invite himself to speak, and not for the University to invite him. I hope you understood what I said and that I clarified any misconceptions.

Ayrıca, Georgetown Ãniversitesi’nde bir gösteri yapılacaÄı konusunda duyumlar vardı. I think that is called American way (!) speech of freedom. :)
As all we know everything is different in US. Such as American way democracy, Bush already bring it to Iraq with blood and tear.
