For a motivational movie I would go with "We Were Soldiers." If you're looking for a more modern war movie then go with "Blackhawk Down."

Black Hawk Down was really good.
I also recommend: Platoon, Jarhead (but if you found Private Ryan boring, you won't like this one) We Were Soldiers, Full Metal jacket, Deer Hunter, The Dirty Dozen,
The Great Escape: excelent film.
For the humor of a war zone watch MASH (the movie, and/or the TV show) a lot of good humor.
other's mentioned were great aswell.

as far as the reality of war goes, there is no better movie than saving private ryan - or at least the first 45 minutes of it...

Black Hawk Down is a really good one. A lot of action. Starts off a little slow but quickly becomes interesting.
