Living in Little Rock, Arkansas can be scary sometimes, as it can be anywhere. We have rapes, robberies, etc. There are places, like my grandparent's grave site, where it isn't safe to go. Gangs have made some places automatic death sites. But, we have more places where it is safe to go. It's because of our police. They keep us safe, & free to go to most of the places we want to go to. I just wish we could pay them what they are worth to us. But, if we did that, we'd have to do without so many other things, like firemen, paramedics, etc. Before someone says so, I'm not married to a cop or dating one. I'm just glad we have them. Good Luck & Blessings

The sad but true answer to your question lies in the fact most police contacts are a result of a negative experience. Being a vicitm of a crime, getting a traffic ticket, being involved in an accident... all unpleasant things.

The media does not help at all. A good cop is hardly worth running a story over. However, people just love to hear about bad cops. Even though this is a very small percentage, the bad cops get all the news.

I don't think there is any other career field where so few bad people have such a negative effect on so many good ones.

And yes, there are bad cops out there. But keep in mind good cops don't like them either.

The problem is no one wants to pay the higher taxes needed to pay police the pay rate they need. People would rather pay hundreds of dollars for shoes then help support the local Police. As for the dumb answer of Police corruption people focus on the few who are bad and not on the tens of thousands of men and women who are honest and do a great job putting there *** on the line everyday.

one problem that i have with out police is that while there is violent crime going on, they are setting up sting operations to catch kids drinking in private homes where they aren't bothering or endangering anyone.

if the cops want my respect they will need to find a way to prioritize their resources more logically...

I hope, you are aware, that cops have the highest rate of corruption beside the mafia and the FBI
