I shave my head. but the school authorities told me to grow my hair back and not do it again. but they allow long shoulder length hair (on guys) and also HUGE spikes.

if they are really concerned about neatness... isnt having no hair neater than having messy bushes? isnt an afro less 'respectable'?

any feedback?

PS: its a pvt. school. might have something to do wit it... but i dont think so.

all i can say is:

they should make rules according to the symbols of the gangs IN THIS AREA.

The gangs here dont shave their heads. the gangs have the same shirts with a symol on it (DHW) and they have different hair. so in this place gangs arent signified by hairstyle. And FYI... theres no choice but pvt school. there are no public schools in this country.(english speaking).
What ive seen here is that they take their rules from the UK (where the school is based)... even though the rules dont necessarily apply here. the UK has more crime than here. here the schools are better and the living class is different.

so why copy the UK if the lifestyle isnt the same?

That does seem strange that your school allows others to grow out long hair and have spikes but not shave their heads.

The only other possible idea I have for why your school may have forbidden this practice is because of possible gang connotations with people who shave their heads.

Some schools are weird with their policies. I know of a school district whose superintendent has just forbidden the students to wear FLIP FLOPS in schools! Isn't that crazy?

I guess the school's ultimate goal is student safety, and they figure they have to ensure safety in any way they think is possible and relatively "fair."

Some schools may be concerned about students expressing some negative aspect of a subculture (like spiked collars on goth kids being unsafe, or gang colors being inappropriate). Really, though, shaving one's head can have a lot of positive connotations and can even be covered under religious expression, which is part of the first amendment (if we're talking the U.S. here). I would ask a school official, and if that person gives you a flippant answer or gives you a "because I said so"-type answer, maybe take it up with the student council or school board. If the rules are inconsistent and seemingly foolish, it's your right as a student to lobby for change. Just be straightforward, calm, and reasonable and they will have no reason not to listen to you. I wish you the best of luck!

Judging from the gang fight on the street in front of my house yesterday afternoon, I can say with certainty it has to do with gang attire and symbols. Every one of them had a shaved head.
You attend a private school, and they can make whatever rules they want. I wish public schools would do the same.

I'd never heard of not allowing shaved heads what if someone had cancer and lost their hair. and shaved heads are acceptable on males. The military allows it, why not schools.
