I'm afraid almost all of the Chinese food is fattening.
Especially restaurant style. (beef and broccoli, chop suey, mongolian beef, foo young, fried rice, white rice, egg rolls, BBQ pork etc)
Even home style Chinese food isn't very healthy.
Contrary to popular belief there IS a difference between home style and restaurant style chinese food.
edit:
GEEGEE is 100% right on the vegetable oil and sodium usage.
Much of the oil used contains monousaturated / polyunsaturated fats.
MSG isn't used at my restaurant.

Yes it is. Most Chinese food in restaurants goes through a cooking phase called passing through. Meats and some veggies are coated with a light batter and dropped in oil for about a minute. If you ever wondered why the Chinese food you make at home doesn't taste the same, or have the same mouth-feel, now you know. Of course, this adds fats to even the healthiest foods you can get. My advice, order everything steamed, with any sauces on the side.

Depending on the manner it is prepared, Chinese food may appear to be healthy. We do find most of the foods fried in much oils, high heat and sodium content is not low either. The food usually taste very good due to its many flavors that they contained such as sauces, oyster sauce, msg and so on. The calorie content are also considered high for example the pork dishes, the chicken meat with dried chillies - they are fried in much oil. The better choices are the steamed fish and the steamed vegetables with sauces but the manner the latter is cooked may not be as healthy after all as compared to eating fresh raw salads. For these reasons, I would think that eating your favorite Chinese food at the restaurants should be kept to about twice or thrice a week. Try cooking yourself the same dishes without the extra oils, the flavors and will do your body good.

Well chinese food is very fattening! But if you are going to get chinese food i would suggest you get white rice instead of fried rice. Veggies instead of chicken wings or chicken fingers. Like broccoli and stuff like that. Hope i helped!

Chinese food is packed with veggies and protein, so if eaten in moderation can be pretty healthy. It also has a lot of salt and sodium, so just be sure to drink tons of water. It won't do you any harm, just don't eat too much.

Depends what kind of chinese. I love the Orange chicken at Panda Express. But the sad fact is that its fried chicken soaked in sugar....
You can probably look and see what looks healthy. For example, steamed veg. You also have to consider what kind of diet you're looking for. Brown rice is healthy, but not if you're trying to cut carbs. You're best bet is to ask for a nutritial facts sheet of where ever you're going. Most places have them these days, sometimes online depending on the place. Then, once you know what you're looking for, you can see what's the best choice.

Suprisingly so, since it has alot of added fat- vegetable oil is used in many of the recipies, and significant amounts. You'd think something like chicken w/ veggies would be relatively low cal, but not so. And of course egg rolls and other items are fried. Plus MSG is something many people try to avoid- it has alot of sodium in it, and some people are allergic to it and have severe reactions. Your best bet may be to prepare chinese style foods at home where you can modify the receipes and control the fat content.
