My boyfriend and I live together and are very happy....he went to a great high school and took college courses. He worked at a dealership for 6 years while he was in school and that is how we met. He started out as a porter very young and then deatailed cars. He really want to be a service writer at a dealer and poeple keep wanting experience. He has about $8,000 from a family member for school purposes but doesnt know what to take or do. He got bored with the classes he already took which had to do with science. I told him to also look into vocational things because he could always have something to back him up while he figures things out. We want to get married in a year and hes frustrated because he wants a good job or schooling for a job...we just want ideas from you on any vocationals to recomend or schooling.....and any job ideas that you can move up from....Thank you for helping....

I spent 35 years as a traveling professional engineering/designer.
From coast to coast, border to border.

On several years, topped six digits
I don't have a degree.

Modern design is done on the computer.

There is a school in Huntsville Alabama that teaches 3-D computer modeling, and jobs range from $25 an hour for beginners, to $70 for experienced (4 or 5 years).

I have a friend(s). Jim and Lisa travel, going from job to job (we're called job shoppers)

Together they can drag down $250,000 a year or more.

They very seldom work more than 6 or 8 months a year. They own a large piece of the Poconos (summer home) and a couple of condo's in the sunny parts of Florida and Texas (winter homes)

Its the ideal career for a couple, where both are in demand, and you can pick and choose where you want to go.

A job, paying say $40 an hour, and almost every job requires overtime (thats $60 per hour, or $100 double and a half for holidays)

So 40 x 40 = $1600 a week (x 2 if you both are working $3200 a week)
Stack on 20 hours of of O.T. 20 x 60 =$1200

$1200 = $1600 = $2800 a week (x2 = $5600 a week)

I just turned down a job in both Houston and greenville S.C. paying $70 straight time. The average job runs from 4 months to (?) years.

So if I had only stayed 16 weeks 16 x 2800 =$44,800
Remember, most jobs have overtime.

I can't think of any career that can present this kind of money, with as litttle formal education. You will learn the ropes, technical shortcuts, etc.

It's very much like playing the X-box.

Good luck...if you want the name of the school, drop me a line.

Think about an apprenticeship in the construction trades . . .
Electrician , carpenter , welder , plumber etc. . .
Or even heavy equipment operator . . .
Find the union locals because they have the schools and you learn the best way to become a journeyman .

AND , you work while doing the program , so you have income .
The programs last about 4 years and pay steadily increases to journeyman rate as you pass the sections .
You can save that $8K for a deposit on a home later .

Ask at your local employment office for info on how to contact the unions about apprenticeships .
You should even consider one yourself , never hurts to have 2 good paychecks coming in .

Good Luck !
