I live in Florida and have been told that drugs are an above average problem here. I know that they are every were but I have a relative that grew up in Detroit Michigan and spent several years in prison and says drugs are worse here than he has ever seen. Im going to list some questions and if you could put just the state you live in if you live in a big city or small town and answer them. If you don’t want to give your state on here either email me or put like your state plus 3 surrounding states.

1 out of all the ppl you know how many regularly smoke pot
2 of all the ppl you know how many regularly do some kind of drug
3 of the ppl you know how many were at some time strung out on some thing (other than pot or alcohol)

I am asking this in this section because I am a mother and I am concerned. We have been talking about moving just so he doesn’t have to grow up how we did. We really love it here but worry. We live in a small town. out of every person I know I can only think of maybe 5 that were not on some kind of hard drug at one point and most of the ppl we know do coke and pills regularly and just about everyone smokes pot. It has come to my attention in answering questions on here that maybe it isn’t like that every were? Meth is the worst here but I know a few ppl who were on crack also.

I am aware that it is every were and he will obviously be exposed to it all no madder were we live. But I would like to find a place were it isn’t normal were the worst thing your average high school student has done is smoke weed and get drunk. Were you average cop could actually pee clean. The only crime around here is drug related. Just position and like stealing cd players from cars stuff like that not really violent crimes And if I didn’t associate with ppl who have had or do have drug problems I would never leave the house.

Hi Fairy! I was born and raised in Miami Fl and I have family who live near Ocala Fl. I left Florida when I was 18 and have not looked back. There are drugs everywhere you can not run from that fact. As a parent you should be more concerned with the education system in Florida vs the drug problem. Sadly Meth is a huge problem in every state and city large and small, the best way to combat these drugs is through education. I still have a few friends who grew up in Miami who still live there but they all want to leave. If you have the means to leave then do it. The educations system is horrible! My 16 year old cousin reads at a 4th grade level and they still keep putting his butt in the next grade. My daughter is in the 2nd grade and is already working on pre-algebra at 6! We are a military family and travel a lot! Right now my husband is a recruiter and we live in a suburb of Chicago, my daughters class has 15 students, and the school which goes from 2nd-4th grade only has 150 students in it total and it is a public school! Not all schools in are like that here don't get me wrong, but Florida has the worse educations system I have ever seen and we have lived in many states and my daughter even went to a school in Florida for a while during 1st grade. GET OUT OF FLORIDA! Unless you are very wealthy there is nothing there but gangs and drugs!

I live in IL and I personally only know about 4 or 5 people who smoke on a regular basis, I know one "occasional" smoker, like once every 4-6 months or so. I don't know anyone personally who has ever been strung out on anything but I know some people who do. I don't think I know anyone who does any other drug other than weed. The town I live in is about 115K so its not a big city but not really a small town either.

I just moved to Iowa, from central Missouri. I like Missouri alot, and thats where my family is. But I wanted to find a place that I could raise my children. Well, I moved up here to Newton, IA and its amazing how people are up here. Its like blast from the past.

Divorce rate is very low.
One of the least populated states.
Everyone here has manners and values.
Even the junk part of town is somewhat nice.
Everybody here takes pride in their yard, whether you have money or not.
Everybody I know actually sits down at the dinner table as a family for dinner.

You would REALLY not believe hoe wholesome everything is up here!

There are still drugs I am sure, but from what I have seen just in the 14 months I have lived here, it is ALOT lower here.
You really don't here about much crime or drugs on the news either!

I know I love it here, and I am glad I chose Iowa to raise my twin girls, and someday my other children.

Good luck to you, I know whatever you choose, is what you think is best. And as a mother thats all you can do!

I live in Oklahoma

In a small town of around 7,000

I lived for 15 years in a different state so many of the people I knew here have either moved away or have lost touch with.

But of ALL the people I have known in Oklahoma I can truthfully say that only two have or are involved with drugs.

I know that Meth use to be a major problem in Okla. But we were the first state to restrict the sale of OTC medications that used to cook Meth. You can only purchase two boxes at one time must buy it at the pharmacy counter, show your driver license and sign for it. Meth labs have dropped dramatically. Many other states have used this law to model ones for their states Meth problems.

As far as keeping your kids off drugs. You need open dialogue with them. You need to let them know that drugs are the worse thing they can do to their lives. Tell them about the experiences of your friends... and what happened to them because they used drugs. Tell them you want better for them. Know their friends. If necessary, make your home the hub of their socializing, so you "know" what is going on. Get involved. Network with the parents of your children's friends. Keep them busy. Be a pain to them... that's your job! They will thank you in the end.

I live in So Cal and my husband works with homeless people and I can tell you that in my general area there is a LOT of drugs. I live in the Palm Springs area. I don't really know anyone who hasn't at least smoked pot. I really don't. A lot of people I know have known or done drugs far worse than that. In our grade school a lot of kids have already smoked pot. I have a friend who worked for that school and there was a lot of drugs there. And sexual activity too.

I think drugs are every where. I lived in five different states and they are available everywhere.

Drugs and alcohol are every where. It seems the smaller and more remote the town the worse it is. Your not going to escape it by moving. Just don't let your kids do what ever they want with who ever they want. You can prevent it but it's all on you. I don't know anyone who does drugs or drinks. I just do not associate with those type of low life's. By the way I live in a very bad state for both N.M.

1. 4 (you said people I know, not people I'm friends with.)
2. Same as above.
3. Probably 30 or 40. People grow up, and get clean. Then they become the kind of people you can be friends with.

I live in Southern California.
