At what age did YOU put your children into toddler beds w bedrails so they can not fall out at night? Did you regret doing it at that age would you have done it sooner/later

I am not asking permission. Just wondering what the over all census is, I am NOT a first time mother in fact the oldest child I raised is now 17. I do not want lectures or smartass comments as I have seen that MANY women on these boards in the "parenting/pregnancy/newborn-baby" section seem to think they are holyer then thou. Please refain from snide comments to other ppl that answer.. Ty

I should add this we do not co-sleep with our son he has his own room and crib. His crib is the type that turns into a toddler bed then into a twin and then onto a full(though we will not use it that long Im sure). The children I raised are now 17-16- and my daughter was 14 my son just turned 16 months. I cant remember for the life of me when the others were moved into toddler beds. He tosses and turns I'd fear he'd fall out of bed! His bedroom is on the second floor in our house and I'd worry he'd remove the child gate (he already does this to the one that blocks the stairs).

My son is 18mo's old and he doesnt try to climb out of his crib so i am keeping him in there as long as i can because he bedroom is on the 2nd floor. I feel the less chance of him falling down the stairs the better

My oldest is almost 26 months and my youngest is 10 weeks. We still have my oldest in the crib just because it is low enough that she doesn't even attempt to get out (don't think she can actually). We have a toddler bed on stand-by, my youngest is in the pack-n-play set up as a basinette. We are moving shortly so I am hoping by the time she is 2.5 and the other is 5 months they both will be transitioned into their beds. I think as long as the child still fits into it (and why shouldn't he/she as a toddler bed uses the same mattress) and is not climbing out he/she can stay in the crib.

i tried at just under 2 years and it was too soon but i had no choice as he had destroyed the crib. he threw tearing down fits when put to bed. he did a whole lot better in a full size bed on the floor no frame at 2 and a half. he slept longer and went to be better i never used rails .i used my toddler bed for less that 8 months what a waste of good money

My son always slept in crib till he way just under a year, he is the kind that tosses and turns and hits his head on the rails and gets his foot caught inbetween the rails..So we moved him to a todler bed, which with rails, still managed to fall of the bed, we then got him a full size bed, that seemd to work for a little, he now has a queen size bed that is working great, it has no base, so if he rolls off, he wont get hurt, BTW is is almost 3.
I would say before you childs 1 its cool to sleep with them, after 1..they need to learn that they have their bed...and they also need to sleep in their own bed.

Good luck

When they were able to crawl up almost outta the crib. My 2.5 year old is now in a toddler bed. The others were in one by 3.5. I didnt regret it. I did make sure to keep the baby monitor on in the room and I put a baby gate in the door so they wouldnt wander all around the house before I got to them. HTH

My general answer would be as soon as you cannot leave the child alone in their crib for fear they will fall out or climb out.(roughly 2 ish earlier for bigger babies) For us personally, since we've always co-slept, the rules are "as soon as the bed is overcrowded or someone is complaining, then the oldest child gets booted to a toddler bed"(also roughly around 2yrs LOL)

My daughter just turned 3, and we are getting ready to do that. I've waited so long cuz she never tried climbing out of the crib, and she still fits it. She is my first and only, so I don't have any prior experience with this.

i put my daughter in a toddler bed at 18 months and she loved it. she likes having her own bed although she'll still crawl in bed with mommy and daddy at about 6 am. and even with the bed rails she still manages to fall out. sometimes she doesn't even notice she fell out and wake up on the floor. lol. i don't regret doing it at this age, she really likes her bed. she's 22 months now.

I put my daughter into a toddler bed at 16 mths just for naps to start, and by 18mths she wanted to sleep in the bed at night. Which was lovely because before that she liked to sleep in our bed. If you don't force it on your child he'll go to it on his own.
