Why do people in the UK think that all Aussie blokes are Bruce and all Aussie gals are Sheila? I can understand the Sheila but where on earth did the Bruce come from? Population 21+ million. Have a great day..

Funny, I don't know anyone called Bruce or Sheila. Of course we know that all American men are called "Homer", "Milton" or "Al" and they all live in the 'burbs.
The Australian population clock has the best estimate and there are two links to it already.
