Do you know of any cleansers that work really well to get rid of body acne? I have it on my shoulders, back, and chest.

Dear Me U,

You are getting a lot of mixed and wrong information here. I work with dermatologists, medi spa, and plastic surgeons all over the Midwest.

First body acne is the worst. I have experienced it myself, so I totally sympathize. This type of acne is usually caused by bacteria. There are ways to bring it back to balance.

Do NOT use Proactive, or any wash/treatment that has an unstable form of benzoyl peroxide. You must find a wash/treatment with stable and time released form of benzoyl peroxide for it to be effective and not burn the skin.

Also there are products that you can take internally that can kill the bacteria that cause acne. These are not prescription based products, so you do not need doc and they do not have the harmful and unpleasant side effects that other prescriptions for acne have.

Also I would hold off on back/body facials, because they are going to recommend a series of them, which may or may not be effective. For the cost you can get quality products at home that WILL help.

If you would like a few product recommendations I would be happy to help you, but need just a little more info.
What are you doing right now for your acne both internal and external?
What treatment creams have you already tried?
How old are you now?
How long have you had acne?
Do others in your family have or did they have acne?

What is your budget for treatments?

Try Benzoyl peroxide. Since bacteria can exacerbate the condition, always wear clean clothes, bras and T-shirts. Wear cotton clothing and use powder to keep your back dry.If you are using an acne treatment cleanser only use it on the affected areas otherwise you’ll end up drying out your skin that isn’t sporting acne. Benzoyl peroxide bleaches fabric. Check out http://useinfo-acne.blogspot.com/ for more useful info.

Neutrogena makes an acne body wash.
What do you use to wash with?
Loofahs and washcloths will harbor bacteria that can cause acne. Use a fresh washcloth every bath or even your hands.

You should see a dermotologist. They can do amazing things for acne and it really doesn't cost that much considering what you spend on otc products. Not much is going to help without a doctors help. Any soap without a lot of additives is good. Use medicated pads on it too, but otc just doesn't work that well. Good luck.

I dated a guy that had it really bad. I told him to take showers with a deep cleaning shampoo and not soap. (I had to do thta for my face as a teen, because I was allergic to the perfume in the soap). It cleard up his body, and 20 years later, I met him and he tells me he still uses shampoo and his skin shows no sign of body acne what so ever.
