One of the main reasons you shouldn't leave your cats outside.
I know from personal experience that many people grow to hate cats after having to deal with other people's cats on their property, stalking the birds around their feeders and leaving feces and urine in their gardens. And they have a point. People should keep their pets on their own property. Their pets should never be a nuisance to their neighbors.
Attitudes are different in different places. While the UK has an estimated 1 million feral cats, the US has approx. 60 million. Australia also has a big problem. Cats have been named as the direct cause of the extinction or near extinction of 39 species.
The reasons why people hate cats is far reaching. Most learn it from their parents. My own mother thought they were evil, sent from hell - apparently to specifically harass her. Luckily, her hatred didn't spread to her children.
I love cats. I also live in redneck central. 8 out of 10 men will tell you that they have, or would intentionally run over a cat. 5 out of 10 will tell you that they would shoot or poison any strays on their property. 1 out of 10 will brag that he does it for fun.
Women seem to like cats more. Probably why they always refer to "crazy cat ladies", and not "crazy cat guys".
Cats are independent and can't be controlled like dogs. Some people can't handle that. Generally, those people aren't opposed to kicking their poor dog around either.
Cruel people are just that. It doesn't stop with cats.
In reality, the problem is not cats, it's humans, specifically the ones who are causing the endless overpopulation. For every 10 feral cats that are trapped, neutered and re-released, another 10 unaltered cats wil be lost or dumped by their owners.
It never ends. One unaltered cat and her kittens can create 420,000 offspring within 7 years.
The only remedy is to spay or neuter all pet cats, and keep your pets indoors, or on your own property. It's safe, it's considerate, good for the ecology, and keeps cats away from their biggest threat: cat haters.

Wow, I would never try to harm a cat, I am not too fond of them, even still that is crazy that someone would try to hurt someones pet. I am extremely allergic to them which is one reason I stay away, but even if I wasn't I would never get one. I think some of them seem sneaky and they aren't as personable as dogs. All animals are different but I am just going by the few I have been around. I am definitely a dog person, my dog is awesome, hes seems like he understands whats going on and always is protective of me. Regardless of loving dogs and not liking cats, I would never harm an animal, that's so sad, I'm sorry to hear that!

Ugh, that is disgusting. I have no idea why anyone would run over your cat, It shows such a lack of respect and empathy for life in general. Even though it sounds like it was a long time ago for you, I'm sorry for that; I would have been completely devastated had that happened to one of my cats.
First off, I am a HUGE animal person, I especially love cats, dogs, and snakes. My sister's fiance, however, hates cats. I never understood this, so I decided to ask him.
He kind of shrugged and said "I don't know, because they shed everywhere, and they get on your countertops, and they dig their claws in when you hold them and they think they own everything?"
I personally think it is a lame excuse. If someone is allergic, I understand. But I don't understand the hate of something just to hate it. But to each his own, I guess.
I hope that helps in your quest for answers, but I somehow suspect the answer is different for everyone. Sigh.

I don't hate cats, I love all animals but i've had really bad experiences with cats. Most of these people that want to get rids of cats are because they can't stand them mostly because of bad experiences. In my neighborhood there are many people who owns cats and the cats come to my house because we are the only ones without dogs so they come to sleep in my mom's new sofa which they get it muddy and full of hair. They poop between the palm trees and it STINKS, they sleep in top of my car and scratch it, they puke in the floor(2 times) and start fighting at 3am with other cats around.
do you have any cats now? In the future you should think about training them to be indoor cats and they will be safer.
good luck!

Some people are idiots, that's why. I used to hate them but that's because my dad hated them ALL because ONE of them scratched him when he was a kid. ONE. Now, is it right to judge all cats by only one? Judge the human race by all the retarded criminals and idiots and you'll find us hypocrital, murderous, and stupid, when in fact most of us are decent and friendly.
Running down cats is not funny! They just want to be in a seclusive place. That redneck was a retard, I can't believe he ran over George. Let's see how he likes getting run over!
I think that people don't like cats because they aren't as outgoing as dogs. They are wonderful animals, but most people prefer a dog because a dog loves to be around people, always.

Some people just dont "get" cats.
They take alot of patience, and these days most people have none.
They dont come when you say there name, they cant be trained like a dog to sit, stay, and rollover.
They have a tendency to be destructive, and a bit stinky at times.
My cats are like therapy for me, and I wouldnt trade them for the world, but cats are not for everybody.
Patty L. is right! That is a proven fact.
I hope that person doesnt have children! Psychotic jerk!

I agree with you. I abhor people that don't like cats (or any other animal at that!)
I seriously think, they have a physological problem. In most cases, hatred is learned from their parents when they were young. Sometimes, they really don't know why/where their hatred comes from. Totally ignorant people on my end - if you don't like animals - it's OK... but finding any type of amusement by HURTING another living being... that's a PROBLEM!!!
If this is YOU - reading this!!! GET HELP!!!

There is no sane reason not to like cats. They keep me company, appreciate me, sleep on my head, care about me, ruin my furniture and carpet, and cost me a fortune. I wish I had tons more; they mean the world to me. Ragdolls are the best! I recently got a lab and I love her, but dogs are different. Cats are easier, smaller, not as crazy. I love them all!
