Yes I do respect him. He's been in ministry for over 30 years and he is a biology teacher, very dedicated and thorough in his examinations and quest for truth. He was Paying his workers without them having tax Id numbers or something and got prosecuted for "tax evasion" early this year. If you google or ask Jeeves about unjust punishment Kent Hovind you will eventually find the whole sordid story or you can go to his blog where he is writing for public view. Anyway He was making such an impact with truth I believe he was treated extremely extremely unjust, getting a sentence of 10 years for something that anyone else would have received probation with his perfect (past) track record. People are scared and afraid of the truth. The truth of creation is not part of the Agenda for the New World Order. The god of this world (satan) is always at work, every day to deceive people. I highly recommend the DVD "lies in the textbooks" by Kent Hovind. It's quite eye opening along with the debates he has had with evolutionists. They cannot argue with him in the presence of truth they get all frustrated and mad but they run out of evidence when he shoots holes in it all with the truth. Kent now ministers to people in Prison and he will be justified in the end.

I actually read all of what you posted good read. But just to comment, I was always under the impression that christianity was on the decline and that the US was moving in the direction of Europe by becoming a more secular and non religious country. I haven't done any research whether or not you are correct that we in the US are losing our edge in science and or math skills because of creationist indoctrinations. I am aware that the study in the science disciplines have decline but I would suspect that it is because of a lack of pay in those fields. Our Society is more about the biggest return of capital for the least amount of work. Our American children are growing up in a culture were everything is about having it right now: fast movies, quick video games, instant information and fast food. A lot of what science is about requires dedication and discovery and I'm sure that the teaching of science in the classrooms probably hasn't keep up with the technology so as to captivate the minds of today's youths. I believe and hope that religion/faith will soon fade away.

LMAO.. The video from the above poster was HILARIOUS.
As an aside - I'm actually spending the 2 hours to watch the above posted google debate video between him and a Dr. Paulson.. and.. I must admit I'm slightly embarassed - because the Evolutionist debater does, frankly, a horrible job - and part of me wonders where the videos are posted (if they are even available by Mr. Hovind at all) of the Evolutionists who had actually held a debate before (Dr. Paulson even states he'd never done this before.. which is obvious, because he sucked at it.)

Anyone who stands up and is willing to be ridiculed for a sincerely held faith gets a certain amount of respect in my book.
Having said that, it is extremely important for any Christian and/or creationist to uphold integrity (usually above-and-beyond) even when those opposed don't and resort to name-calling etc. Creationist publications/sites need to delve deeply to make sure what they present has a good amount of merit. You'll never satisfy the dyed-in-the-wool atheist/evolutionist of any creationist argument (ipse facto), but you need to present cogent arguments. These arguments will still honour the fact that a recent creation can be embraced only by faith just as evolutionary abiogenesis 000,000,000's of years ago needs faith of a different kind.
A good example of a creationist site, which from what I read tries to uphold its own integrity strongly) discussing very pointedly with Kent Hovind (while he was not yet in jail) is at:

I think that Dr. Dino is a good source for a brown, disgusting, semi-solid substance that has been eliminated from the digestive tract of a sexually functional male bovine.

More of the creationist "pseudo-science". I'd be offended if some one insulted my intelligence with it - that is to say if I were a christian and this was said to be a defense for my beliefs.
Edit:
The several articles that I read were so laughable and uninformed that it's hard to imagine anyone swallowing it as any sort of science. I pity the people that read it and accepted it as a good source of information.

He stood up against the fed tax laws that are unconstitutional, and is imprisoned for it. Many have tried to do the same, to stop the unconstitutional tax laws, and some have succeeded, some have failed. But Hovind is a strong believer and has a great ministry. God has used him in and out of prison.
Paul was imprisoned in the Bible. So were many believers. So that doesn't mean much.

They usually post it once. Then we make fun of the fact that the guy is in jail for tax fraud and it usually goes away.
I like to point out the similarity to this as well: http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2006/05/19/5000-for-proving-the-earth-is-a-globe/
