A female relative in her mid 60s, whom I have always liked, is developing a strange psychological state that has the people who care about her deeply concerned. She has started cutting people off, cutting them out of her life. She is threatening to divorce her husband of many years and to pack and move to another state. What this strikes me as, is delayed, very delayed "middle aged crazy". But I could suspect brain tumor or evolving schizophrenia or any of a number of other things from the choices she has been making recently, and her behavior. She tends to be paranoid and is certain those who don't agree, and who can't actively "side" with her against her "enemies" mean her harm.

She will never see a professional unless her family commits her, or unless she goes to the family doctor and he can sense something amiss, or unless she goes to the hospital for a mental collapse or heart attack or something of that sort.

Has anyone faced anything like this in their family?

This is sooooooo hard. There is little you can do except as you already have noted. Do let her doctor know what is going on. But, he can't do anything at this point. You might want to talk to your mental health department for the county (or region) to find out when they could help. She could have either problem you identify. Perhaps her doctor might be able to give her a medication which would calm her down. Another area I have seen this problem show up is in the process of developing Alzheimer's Disease. It is a stage of it that makes them very paranoid and very difficult to deal with. There is an oral test that can be done to determine if this could be a possibility. Check with the Alzheimer's Disease Association.

There are a couple of ways to do it... One way, maybe not even the best, is to calculate the Molecular Weight of the compound. I'm not going to do it for you, it is so simple as to be insulting for you NOT to be able to do it by yourself. But I will show you how to calculate a molecular weight, in general. Lets say you have a formula Pu2O7Si4 (made up) to figure the MW you multiply the number of atoms in the formula by the atomic weight of that element Pu 242 (say - since it is radioactive this could be debatable) O 16 Si 28.1 so the MW = 2x242 + 7x16 + 4x28.1 So Lets call that weight "Z" grams per mole And a mole is 6.023 x 10^23 pieces so you have Z grams per 6.023E23 pieces (in this case a piece is a molecule) (it sometimes is atoms, sometimes ions, sometimes molecules - just like a dozen can be a dozen donuts or a dozen apples or a dozen anything, a mole can be a huge number of anything - but it is only convienant for very tiny things) To calculate the weight of 1 piece, you would divide the weight of the mole by 6.023E23, Z÷6.025E23 I expect you to be able to figure out how to figure out how much 60 molecules would weigh (mass) if you can figure out how much one does.... Doing the same thing for C11 H 18 O2 is trivial.

Yes, I have a female relative who is doing exactly the same things and she is only 30!
