I'm searching for a Doctor for my mother who is 50 years of age. What are some areas of specialization that I should look in a doctor for my mother? Is it just a regular family doctor? Primary? I need one that deals with problems w/ aches in particular body parts. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!

First, you need to find a good general physician for your mom. If she has any ailments that require specialists, the general practitioner can refer her to someone. Need a little more info than "problems w/aches in particular body parts". Which body parts are you referring to? Could be anyone from an orthopedist to a neurologist. See a general dr. first. Good luck.

If there's no more to go on than that, then she should see a family physician or internist. A rheumatologist may need to be consulted, but there's a lot of ground to be covered before getting there.

What kind of insurance does she have? I have a PPO insurance that allows me to go see an arthritis specialist or rheumatologist just because I want to. Other people have to have a primary care physician, anyone will do, who then refers them to a specialist... Check out her insurance requirements.

She will probably benefit from a rheumatologist.
