when a guy says you're pretty, does that mean you're just ok looking? i had a guy stop me the other day, but i told him i was married, and he said "oh im sorry. you are just so pretty i had to stop and tlak to you". i didnt know guys still used the word pretty, i thought they said "hot" or "beautiful". so if a guy says you're pretty does he not think much of you? or am i reading too much into words
p.sdont get me wrong, im very grateful for the compliment:) just wondering why a guy would say pretty, since its not very common

I didn't know "pretty" wasn't common anymore. I've heard it used a lot. I bet he meant that you were very good looking. If he would go out of his way to stop you and compliment you he must have thought in your words that you were "hot." :) Enjoy the compliment!

Think about it this way...why would he waste his time stopping you to say "your just okay looking"? Unless you have big boobs or a big butt.
Anyway, You are MARRIED. What does it matter. Your husband thinks your beautiful I am assuming, so you should not be worried what some other man said.
Like I said, the comment could have meant many things, so take it for what it is worth.

No, maybe you're not reading enough into it. "Hot" means nothing beyond a state of limited sexual attractiveness at any given moment...a woman can be "butt-ugly" and still have moments when she is "hot" (that's why beer was invented). "Beautiful" is a spiritual consideration (often misused) but generally reserved for people we know to be just that, in features and in deeds. (For example, there is only ONE beautiful woman in my immediate sphere of vision). But "pretty" respectfully and candidly says everything that can be said, especially since you already told him you were married. "Pretty" is high praise, especially from someone you don't know.

Pretty / Beautiful - not just superficial but inside as well
HOT / Gorgeous / Fine / D@mn! - usually superficial
Cute is used when your about 65/35..60/40..I.e
She's real cute BUT her hair is horrible. She's real cute BUT would be HOT if she got rid of that pimple by her lip.

Your really thinking too much into it. If a guy stops you, there must be something he sees in you. Whether they say you are pretty, hot, gorgeous, or beautiful, it all means the same thing honey.

If I called a girl pretty it would be a uncommited compliment. No deep dark meanings. But then I am from the old school.

Cool. Takes some doing to stop a stranger and tell her she's pretty. You've moved the man. You must be a great looker. Great for the ego. Lap it up.

Some guys realize that not all women take "hot" as a compliment, since it generally means "do-able" and little else.

Take the compliment and move on. How old is the guy that stopped you? Maybe he was just being flirty.

You NEVER say "You are hot" to a MARRIED woman. She will think that you are hitting on her. Duh!
And only snobby intellectuals say "beautiful".
Women analize too much. I wouldn't wory about another person's poor choice of words.
