who has been praying for me and my situation and she believes it is Santeria. But from what I have seen Santeria has to do with certain specific saints and this man doesn't do that, in stead he has me pray to God. He has told me certain things about my problems but nothing negative all positive in lifting up my spirits.

Santeria is a West African ,especially Yoruba, animist religious system involving the invocation, appeasement and veneration of personal spirits called orishas who can help or harm humans. Ritual, dance, spells, offerings are used for communicating with and honoring the orishas.Special people are chosen by the orishas to be "ridden' or possessed for the purposes of communication or even healing.

These practices and mindsets are coated with a vener of Catholic piety and sacramentals in Latin America and the Carribean since the enslaved African populations were "converted" and baptized( but rarely instructed or evangelized) into Latin R Catholicism. The orishas were given "code identities" of particular Catholic saints as a cover to continue the relationship between an orisha as patron and a supplicant as client/devotee.
For example , the St. Barbara identiy and image was picked as the 'cover" of Chango(Shango'), a powerful male "Hercules-like' river spirit, because she is represented as by a tower and sword(because of her mode of martyrdom and so was Chango. St Francis as cover is Ifu .,an orisha of fortune and fortunetelling ,and St Anthony is Eleggua, the keeper of the Table of Ifu,because their bald heads look like skulls and St Francis is sometimes depicted holding a skull.

The Catholic Church has repeatedly warned its member not to participate in Santeria( or Its Brazilian equivalent Santuario/Umbanda). Christians have their own religion, spirituality and Santeria or Vodoo/Vodun are not compatible with any form of Christianity.

There are
"Protestant-flavored" forms of Santeria like the "Spiritual Baptist Church" in Jamaica.

Santeria is basically the Cuban version of Voodoo. A combination of African tribal witchcraft and Roman Catholic teachings mixed up with a distinctly cuban flair. Just more made up hoodoo to screwdoo the money out of you know who.

actually, it's the tribal religion of africa, known as candomble, macumba or lucumi, hidden behind the appearance of catholicism--when the slaves were brought over and forced to convert, they started using images of the saints to represent the orixas, their ancestral spirit/deities from their homeland
