I was pondering this abstractly...what do you think of the following? How would you improve it? What do you do?

Observe: be mindful of what you do and think back over the past day, week or year to learn from your past what went good and why.

Identify: for the things which went not so good, figure out the mistakes you made, identify the errors.

Modify: plan to do things differently in similar situations in future.

Write: write down a 'rule' to guide you away from repeating the mistake. The rule may not be always followed, but you are aware of it.

Remember: periodically review your rules so that you do not forget them!

I think "identify" is probably the hardest, to actually realize we are erring and that something must be done. We are naturally very self-defensive and don't like to admit that there is a problem or that we are wrong.

If you look back in history, we do NOT learn from our mistakes. Besides it was once said " Learn from others mistakes, you don't have time to make them all yourself."
