It's a very good question, but possibly some of the assumptions are a little of a stretch as there isn't a real good data source for the past or even for many current cultures.

I think it is just a sign of the time we are living in and there is not a lot that can be done because of peoples attitudes are so selfish.
"But know this that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blashphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion, but proving false to its power; and from these turn away."
2 Timothy 3: 1-5
edit: Yes, it's always existed, but not in the scale that it does today. It use to be that you never heard of a woman killing her children. Now it happens all the time. The pedofiles, the murders and rape. Teachers having sex with their students. You use to be able to sleep with your doors unlocked, and not lock your cars. Now you can't even trust young teens, 12-15 not to do you harm. A twelve year old cut off someone's head over in Iraq. Things are not the same as they were in the 50's and 60's or even later. Every year it gets worse.
