Or are they the same thing?

I don't have anything wrong with me. I'm not depressed or anxious or anything. In a way, I'm kinda curious about what a "shrink" can tell me about myself and why I think the way I do. Is that something they can help me with?

There are different therapists - Social Worker, Marriage Counselor, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, etc. They each have specialties and there are cross over skills. The cost varies between professions, the area that you live and individually. It is possible to see someone just for personal growth. Most people do not do this. They grow through the experiences in life and their reflections on them. It also can be quite costly, but there is no reason you couldn't do this. Most people who see a therapist are not "crazy", but are having life problems and desire to find a better way of dealing with them.

Interesting thing about seeing a 'shrink' or doing some therapy - they just help you find out things about yourself you already know, and just didn't have the words or tools or make the connections that they help provide. Nothing wrong with seeing a therapist just to learn about yourself. Tell them that is what it is for if you do it.

Well, a therapist is what I would recommend. The main difference between the two is prescribing medicine, and it doesn't seem like you need any. Often, even then, people see a therapist or psychologist on a regular basis and a phsychiatrist on a monthly basis to oversee the application of any drugs.

You really don't need to see either if there is nothing wrong with you. You might want to see a career counselor. They can give you tests that will tell you things about yourself. But if you want a free test, go to www.eharmony.com and fill out the questionaire. It will take about an hour, but they give you a very indepth personality profile. I found mine to be very accruate. Yes it's a dating site, but you don't have to subscribe to get the personality profile.

Sure, if you want to spend the money they will definitely try.

But try a psychologist. "Therapist" isn't necessarily a protected title (i.e. depending on where you live anyone can put a sign saying "therapist" on their door). A psychiatrist is basically a doctor, and will tend to focus more on curing you, what isn't applicable here.

Hello!
You may need to see either one of them. But, try a therapist or maybe even a clergy person if you are of a catholic faith for instance. You do not really say what is bothering you?

Anyway.. hope this advice helps you!

If you don't have a problem, you don't need a shrink. They would make you hypochondriac and feel like you had a problem when you don't.

Why don't you go to a counselor? They could help you discover more about your life and the choices available to you to make your life better.

try calling some of the doctors offices around you and ask them, you'll get a call back at least, i imagine that if you are going to pay them for a pshychoanalysis, youre gonna get it.
