I'm 24 years old and my mother thinks it's a good idea to apply for services because I suffer from frequent panic attacks while driving and sleeping, and I've been out of work for a year. I'm scared that i'm going to get turned down, from what I've been reading, they never except anyone on the first application. Any advice?

Don't worry about the phone interview. They just ask you questions about your history. Be prepared to answer very similar questions in written form later on. Yes it's true that everyone gets denied the first time around. That's no big deal. You just go to a disability lawyer and they will do all the hard work for you on the appeal. The lawyer will help you prepare for the hearing which may not even be necessary. I was denied on the first application, but then, without any new information, the judge reviewed my case just before the hearing and decided that he didn't even need to hear from me. He approved my disability based on the info that was in the file.

Make sure you are also seeing a doctor to prescribe medication for you. Having the right medication may mean an end to the panic attacks.

It is true that most people get turned down on the initial application. They need the supporting documentation to show that you could not functionally work, not just with what you were doing, but with any job. I think you just need to go ahead with the interview and keep applying. By the third denial you are allowed to present your case in front of an administrative law judge.

Maybe you should focus on healing rather than applying for aide. I am not trying to be mean here, just realistic.

In the past I had similar problems but I decided to beat them (cure them and I am not talking about going on medication, either)Your focus should be on being healthy, not going on disability(assuming you do not want these panic attacks).

And yes, they usually do reject all first claims My mother has a severe disability (her spine is slowly crumbling) and she was rejected at first, even with a lot of X rays and such. You may need to hire a lawyer.

But seriously sitting at home collecting disability is not going to help you get better. You may want to think about it.Best of luck to you.

That is typical of Social security not accepting anyone on the first try. There are steps to follow in the process of getting a approval .There is no need to feel anxious over it. Just answer the questions honestly. he questions are very basic too so there is no fear of it becoming too personal.
do not give up either. Social Security wants people to stop trying , but if you continue to fight for your money you will receive it.

You never know, everyone is different. Don't be scared. It is kind of like having a baby....everyone has to tell you there horror story! Good luck to you and don't be scared. If you do get turned down you can always try again.

Well, you are right that you will probably get turned down the first time, because nearly everyone does! You will probably have to get a lawyer.
However, don't be nervous. The person who interviews you probably isn't the one who is going to decide if you qualify for it. They are just the one who has to record your answers.
