Hold on tight to him during this time. I know sometimes it feels like he is far away - however - he is always near. It is times like these you need a good devotional to read every morning. Cling to the word of God. We do loose that wonderful feeling now and then. God wants us to praise Him whether we feel like it or not. That is when you get your victory. Have faith and don't fret, God is in control of every circumstance. This scripture helped me when I was going through similar experiences and trials:
Jer 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I'd rather look past the specific role of God in your personal spirituality and focus more on the spirituality itself. Our spirituality comes from a place within us that is inspired by light and positive energy. You have been dealing with a lot of negative energy recently and need to make an effort to focus more on the positive in life. The potential is all around you, whether there are difficulties in your life or not. What I find the most spiritually enriching is to accept the less than positive and keep on looking at the potential, rather than the problems.
Explore the potential in your life and your spirit will become infused again.

Well being close to God is not always just a feeling. You cant always get a reliable "reading" from feelings. Sometimes they are "spot -on correct" and sometimes they are way off. Maybe you are now just as close to God as you have ever been and its the feelings that are off. I suggest a little bible reading because those words stay the same from day to day even though our feelings change from moment to moment. I can remember well back in the days when i thought I was so so far from God because i felt bad about things happening at that time but hindsight is 20/20. now i know that God is much bigger than my feelings. Read a little Job. Job was so sick that he couldn't stand up and he felt sort of bad but yet he is so close to God that he could actually talk to God and hear God answering back.

God is still with you. I'm not sure of your trials, but we all have some sort of cross that we too must bear. When your weight feels it's heaviest, your faith must grow stronger. Your angels will appear to you in human form. Know that they are here to help you in some way, discover their lesson and move on. Don't give up on God, check out this site and see if you may be a Deist.

The fact you are going through trials ....even the fact you feel spiritually adrift, should not overly worry you.
Most of God's worshippers went through similar experiences.
Job was tested beyond normal.
Jeremiah once wanted to give it all up.
Your major concern should be Jesus' words:
"he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved."
Matthew 24:13.
Jude said something similar:
"put up a hard fight for the faith" Jude Verse 3.
In practical terms you need to talk with a spiritually insightful person, to be re-assured and motivated.
Choose very carefully.

May the Holy Name of YHWH be blessed Forever!
What you call "trials" in truth are all part of life. They are not punishment, quite the opposite, they are given to you to straighten your walk with G-d. THE REAL QUESTION that you should be asking is: WHERE DOES G-D WANT ME TO GO FROM HERE SPIRITUALLY?
If you want to feel close to G-d again then take Him out of the "religious box" that you have put Him in and let Him once again be G-d.

"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 2:2.
What does that mean? You cannot have an inclination to come to Him unless He sets in motion influences and impresses His Spirit upon the human mind. And if there is a man/woman on the face of this earth who has any inclination toward God, it is because of the many influences that are set to work to bear upon his mind and heart.
Those influences call for the allegiance to God and an appreciation of the great work that God has done for him/her.
Thank God for those influences. Were it not for them, we would have no desire to seek Him, to read the Bible or to pray!
"God is no respecter of persons." "He makes the sun shine on the good and the bad."
"The fool says in his heart, there is no God." Ps.14:1.
Every man and woman born into this world has been given a measure of light and it is what we do with that light that determines whether we receive more or not. We may go from light to a greater light if we do not resist the work of the Spirit upon our heart.
Jesus said, "I will draw all men unto Myself." All are drawn but not all respond to that drawing. This is where the element of choice comes in.

Remember trials are a way of god cleansing you. Trials build character. All must be purged before the glory of god. God will not give you anything you can't handle. Don't spend your time on idle thought doubting god. God does not want you to think/dwell on these things but to trust in him............... DO NOT THINK OBEY!

I suggest you seek God in a heartfelt prayer. Acts 17:27 says to "....seek God, if they might grope for him and really find him, although, in fact, he is not far off from each one of us"
and “Before him pour out your heart,” said the psalmist in the book of Psalm 62:8...
Talking to God just like you would talk to your best friend (w/ deep respect), pour out your heart to Him and let Him know your concerns and ask for his Help.
"Draw close to God, and He will draw Close to you...."

It doesn't get any closer than the kingdom of God (including God) is located within you. Perhaps you should compare the two biblical Gods rather than mix such contrary things as Law and Grace, for mixing Grace(Life) + Law(Death) notably results in "My God, my God, why has thou FORSAKEN me"?
Law: I will forget you and I will forsake you: Jeremiah 23:39
Grace: I will never leave thee nor forsake thee: Hebrews 13:5
Pst: there is no discomfort at all in "the God of all comfort".
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
