I think that children are to open to brainwashing and it causes diiferances at schools

For those of you who think it should, read this example and give me your views

Bob grew up in care, say bobs parents were Christians and when he was fostered He was placed with muslims at the age of 3 and he learnt their teachings and followed their religion till at 9yr he went back home and was then made to revert back to christianity.

would this be right, is it brainwashing, should we not teach our children good moral lessons and save religion for when they are old enought to grasp the vast subject that many adults struggle to come to terms with?

Or is it more important for us to mold our children to follow our footsteps?

If children were left to grow up before finding their spiritual path would this promote a following of religion based on ones belief of the subject rather then what is forced up on them at a young age

You're absolutely right. Children are genetically predisposed to believe whatever they're told. If parents teach them that a certain religion is fact, they will probably never be in a position to make an objective decision in later life.
If as a society we value freedom of religion, then we cannot tolerate the religious indoctrination of children. It's that simple.

I think Sunday school is a wonderful thing. My kids went to Sunday school and learned about the bible. Good morals were taught to them during that time. As they got older they drifted away from God. That made me sad but I love them no matter what. They can decide for themselves what they want to believe. My son, 26, recently came to us and said, "my life feels so empty without God". He re committed his life and started going to church again. He stopped partying and drinking and his life is going in a better direction now. I didn't make him do anything. I believe that the holy spirit in his life directed him back to where he should be. Good Godly morals were instilled in him as a child. Think about it, the 10 commandments are a good moral base for anyone. I do, however, believe that a comparative religion class should be offered in EVERY high school so kids can hear about other views and opinions as to not be ignorant of others belief systems.

The Scripture says, "Train up a child in the way it should go. When it grows old, it will not depart." That leads me to believe that it's perfectly OK to teach children about faith, but at a pace they can understand and absorb as they ask questions and etc.

Religion should not be taught in the school at all. If it is a Christian school, Catholic school, or any other type of religious based school, then expect is, it is private and part of the curriculum.

As far as parents teaching there children via church and home, absolutely yes! It is their duty to teach there children!

I want my kids to be exposed to the truth at a young age. Statistics say that many children's core beliefs are already set by the time they reach twelve years old, so I'm not going to wait until then to start sharing my faith with them. Proverbs says to train up a child in the ways of the Lord, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

I expose my kids to many different religions. They are nearly 10 and 7. I want them to know that it's good to explore, ask questions, study, research and then make their own decisions. I don't think I could get them to do it in the adolescent years as easily as I can at the younger ages. I wanted to give them an open mind with a well rounded outlook before they could rebel. lol

Indoctrination is wrong IMO, but education is never a bad thing.

Today many would say religion shouldn't be taught at all. These same people want to have the school teach their children about save sex, yet most of these children haven't learned to carry out the trash yet and they expect them to have safe sex. The word of God is probably the only book that I am aware of that actually teaches self denial. In answer to your question.

TEACH THEM ALL ABOUT THE BIBLE THAT YOU CAN. MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT, LET THEM SEE THE BIBLE IN YOU.

I plan on not indoctrinating my kids. When religion is taught to you at an early age, you have a much harder time looking at it objectively as an adult. I want my kids to have all the evidence and be able to make up their own minds.

A good place to start would be Deuteronomy (Stone people for crazy reasons, women are objects, War is nessecary) Then I would tell them isn't it funny what people used to believe? How do you feel about this...Then I would tell them what I was reading was from the Bible, then ask how they feel about it again.
