Looking to dive deeper into shooting. Right now I have a Mossberg 500 and an old Enfield Mk1 No. 4 from WWII that I refinished.
I'm looking to get into the 21st century, haha. The SIG 556 looks AWESOME. But the M1A looks like it packs a bigger punch and is probably more accurate. I don't shoot very often. I have a farm in Michigan (I live in Chicago) that I go up to 2x a year to shoot. Which one would I have more fun with?

While 7.62/.308 is more expensive too shoot than the 5.56/.223 of the SIG, replacement parts for SIG rifles are almost nonexistant in the US. M1A/M14 parts, on the other hand are redily avalible and many parts have even been returned to production - after the US military returned the M14 to active duty service in Afghanistan!
An M1A can be used in competitive shooting, which I think you would enjoy. It IS more accurate at distance.
The M1A is also a piece of US history, a part of our heritige.
Yeah, I'm biased.
But I don't think you could go wrong with an M1A.

For competition the M1A will be far more accurate, But on the same note the ammo for it is far more expensive. The 556 would be great for plinking, It is an extremely well built and reliable.

If it were me and I had the extra money I would go for the M1A. I have never shot the Sig 556 but it is basicly an AR15. I love my AR but if I had one choice and the cash todo it, I would get an M1A.

If you decide to sell the Enfield contact me as I collect them. Go with the M1A; it is a perfect rifle and you can get clips and other goodies all over the place. They last forever; I have a pair of them; one scoped and one unscoped. You can have a lot of fun with them, they are very accurate and dependable, simple to clean and maintain, yada.

M1A.There really isnt any other modern gun like it,unless you count the FAL and they are still very different. The Sigs are essentially ar-15s,except much more expensive and hard to find parts for.
