No such thing as "Vista Word" or "XP Word". Perhaps you meant Word 2007 vs. Word 2003? If so, just do "save as" and pick an older format.

A pretty-much never-fail is to save the file as a text file:
File
Save as
on the bottom, left, click the down arrow to select "text."
Then, send the text file on to your friend.

It is not XP or Vista that is giving you the problem. Your friend with Vista probably has Word 2007, while you have an older program. Word 2007 should be backward-mobile and be able to open an older version of Word - but if it doesn't, try the workaround by saving to a text file.

There are two ways out of this. As others have said, you can save your file in an earlier format with Save As, or, your friend can download the free Compatibility Pack from Microsoft and be able to read your Word 2007 file as is.

Hope that helps.

Ok, in Vista Word, select save as and under file type select Microsoft Word 97-2003, click on save and resend it to your friend.
That should work

This has happened to me recently.
Someone did send me a word document with Office 2007.

When I tried to open it with Office 2003... I was sent to the Microsoft website to get an update for Office 2003 and a converter for Word 2003.

Besides that... you can copy and paste it in an email to send it to her. Or you can use Notepad or Wordpad to send it to her.
