Being a former paratrooper, I lean heavily toward "Beyond Band of Brothers" by Maj. **** Winters.

W. E. B. Griffin wrote 3 amazing series of books.
1. The Brotherhood of War
This set follows the career of 6 soldiers throughout their careers. It starts at the end of World War ll and ends during the Viet Nam War. The characters seem so real it is wonderful. There are some real people in it also.
2. The Corps
This set follow a set of Marines from World War ll to the Korean War. Reading them keeps you on the edge of your seat.
3. Blood and Honor
This set stars a Marine Lieutenant from Guadalcanal to Argentina. You meet FDR, Wild Bill Donavon, the OSS,
and Juan and Evita Peron. Excellent Reading.
These are my choices. I hope you enjoy.

By military book, I wasn't sure if you were talking specifically about books on different wars or just military related books. My absolute two favorite military books are: In the Company of Heroes by Michael Durant (the story of the downed helicopter pilot that was in Black Hawk Down) and Five Years to Freedom by James N. Rowe (a true story of a Vietnam POW that spent five years as a prisoner of war)

A great military book in my opinion, is one called "Company Aytch" by Sam Watkins. Watkins was a foot soldier in the Confederate army, and therefor tells the tale like no one else (since nearly all the books on the subject were written by officers and generals). He describes the events with graphic detail, and is worth reading, regardless of one's persuasion on the Civil War.
