It's kind of like that witch of a boss that you have - she's new at the whole boss thing and thinks she has to be a tyrant to be effective. Eventually she will learn that we lead by example with a positive attitude. God just hadn't learned that yet, I guess.

Except that God knows everything...and is always right...soooooo, I guess he was just a hateful old smite monster.

That is a fair question. Many call him a murderer, a killer, heartless. But are you aware that those nations he destroyed were absolutely vile? They practiced child worship in honor of their gods. That is verified by archaologists exploring the ancient lands. The wonder is, some of those archeologists have said, is why God didn't destroy them sooner.

Because people were helpless- they were down- ripe for the kicking. Someone even tried to come down and help them back up- but he sent him to hell for even suggesting it.

That god sounds like the kind of guy who kicked puppies for fun... Why would anyone follow him?

Do they HATE PUPPIES or something?

God does not change.

Authors of books change God to what suits them at that time.

God in reality is neither like the Old or the New Testament.

What is your opinion of hateful? If you read, for ALL who loved and obeyed his commands, he was faithful, trustworthy, and loving. For those who rejected him, who attacked and tried to harm or kill those who chose to follow him, he stood up to them. That's not hateful. If you built a house, furnished it, paid all the utilities on it, and then let your closet kin live there free and clear, and even provided everything they needed from then on, and they shut you out, would not take your calls, would not talk to you, partied all the time, gave all the thanks for all they had to trees and rocks, and animals, how would you have responded?

Why don't you try and tell us what you find so 'hateful?' There's a lot of different things there which people point to, and each one is answerable in the specific.

I would simply say He wasn't hateful.

I suppose I can sort of understand why a terrible god was invented and worshiped in ancient times. What I don't understand is why that same god is worshiped today.

Christan's assimilated the Jewish god and made him 'loving' but in the end he is a heartless killer...

I don't think hateful is the right adjective. He was founding a nation that would prevail until the end of the world and He had to do things to establish that nation. He does things differently now that the nation is founded.
