That's exactly the problem a lot of christians have with understanding athiests.

They think that because they need 'god' in order for their lives to have any meaning, that anyone who doesn't believe in him must be miserable.

If God did not exist. Probably the best purpose in life would be to raise children. They can put a person's life in focus and give it meaning.

Without knowing God, I would probably try to find meaning in life in relationships, pursuing a career, attractive physical appearance, trying to get rich, etc. But all these would still leave my heart empty. They don't reveal the purpose of my existence and life, and most importantly what happens to me after death. Are these all to life? I can't take them with me after death. So what's the point?? Just live for the moment? That is so empty to me.

But I thank God that I have found the reason to live in Him. =)

If GOD never existed for me I suppose I would still be living my life selfishly, living only for me....I would still be a lying, womanizing, booze swilling, pot smoking, coke snorting, purposeless heathen of the worst sort. Thank you JESUS !! JESUS CHRIST came into my heart 11 years ago and I have never been the same since!!! I have been faithful to the same woman for 7 years, I do not drink, smoke, or do drugs anymore! My purpose is to walk in love towards people selflessly. I want to be like JESUS! When someone excepts JESUS CHRIST as their personal savior that person will never be the same again, I guarantee it...

I don't find purpose, purpose finds me.

That's the way it works for most people.

I don't know anyone following Jesus to the letter, selling all they own, buying a sword, going out into the world with nothing in your pockets, forsaking your home and travelling by foot from door to door doing twice what is asked of you and for no renumeration.

I don't know anyone who does what God and Jesus asked.

And that is God's one and only purpose for Christians, it's in the Bible. But no one does it.

I don't think my purpose would matter. I'd live a selfish, self-centered life, proud of all "my" accomplishments, and in the end my life would end in death. Even as I write this, I need to fall to my knees and thank God for pursuing me as much as He did because He is my purpose!

My sole purpose would be for my wife and children. That would be my single driving purpose in my life, if, hypothetically, God was not.

Regards, respects

These are the same people that believe that beings of superior intellegence on other planets will go to hell for not accepting Jesus...Maybe he is still on his way? The Native Americans had their chance because Joseph Smith (Mormon leader) said Jesus came to the Americas....Oh wait he was proven to be a fraud...But the Mormon Church still defends and attempt to discredit DNA and Ancient Egyptian translated Evidence from his supposed writings of Abraham...

The purpose would be to live a successful life. Of course, this term "successful" is open to interpretation.

I find this amazing, many of the answers say that they would have no purpose, no reason to live. Is the love of your family not worth it? Is watching your children grow up not worth it? Is enjoying what you have not worth it? No wonder you can't even fathom the mindset of atheists.
