Almost any fresh food will be low in sodium. Fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meat, chicken and fish are all good.

It's when they get processed that salt is added. For example, salt is an ingredient in many canned vegetables and in many cured meats.

And most bread has a lot of salt. Look for low-sodium bread, or make your own.

Check out www.healthyheartmarket.com. They sell only low and no-sodium foods. The site also has articles and infomation regarding what levels are required for a food to be classified and low sodium or very low sodium. They have low sodium cook books and other resources as well.

If you are on a low sodium diet, then check the sodium content of foods before you eat them...processed foods are often high in sodium, so eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, and lean meat...and try seasoning your food with alternatives to salt. Also, some processed foods are low in salt/sodium and more and more are advertising that on their labeling.

Good luck!
