Atheists have got it good.
Theists reckon there must be a hole to fill with something if it's not ‘god’.
Untrue - there is NO hole.
I don't ponder on any of those questions because my life, like any other living entity on this planet, is to procreate and die.
My ego isn't that gigantic and not at all frightened when it comes to contemplating death.
My ego doesn’t need another life – this one makes me happy enough – I’ve had a great ride even if it ends tonite.
Don't get me wrong, I like living - there are lotsa parts I like about it and not much I don't like about it - it's way better than the alternative.
BUT one day the ride will end - I'll run out of fire and or fuel - I'll fall off the perch - the light will go out - The End.
It's okay - I don't resent it; death is as much part of life as life is.
When I was a much younger man I pondered on why I was here but after a while I realised I had to be happy with the obvious reasons rather than make up some fantasy or believe some book which made less sense than other religious books - they couldn't all be right and there were not too many reasons why ANY of them should be.

I have a degreee in Art and Philosophy. Teleology is the branch of Philosophy that questions whether there are purposes to the universe and life. It is more profound than blindly believing some groundless religion. I need no meaning in life that some con men invented. There is always a "pay the priest" aspect to all organized religions. That is the purpose of inventing such nonsense. I think your life is the sad one, not mine. I am free to find my own meanings. I paint pictures and write books, and some people enjoy them. I help some people with my answers here on YA too. That is better than following silly strict rules in the delusion that you will live forever in a Heaven that many smart men would not want, if it did exist. I spend my money as I see fit, and I give nothing at all to con men who try to sell tickets to a phony Heaven that is boring and depressing. Life has no purpose inherently. It is just what you make of it. I insist upon deciding that for myself, rather than going along with my grandfather who was a preacher. I began to doubt his religion when I was age 7, and I felt much better when I saw that his strict beliefs were nonsense. I do not have a sad life now. I did when I was a child and had strict religion forced upon me.

The purpose of life is living - it always has been and always will be. This is true of all living things.
The most fundamental aspect of living is passing on your genes to the next generation.
What you do between times, whether you laugh or cry, or make other people do either; whether you are remembered as a good person, a bad person or not remembered at all and many other things besides is up to the individual but it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with an imaginery being who will only meet you, reward you or punish you after you are dead because this means that the purpose of life is to die.
How pathetic that religionists spend their entire lives worrying about what will happen to them after they are dead. My only regret in there not being even a fleeting chance of any form of afterlife is that they will never experience the total horror and surprise at the fact that they've wasted their entire lives on a delusion.

I don't understand how christians think that life without god is life without purpose. My life has purpose. It's to be a good mom, wife and mother. It's to be a contributing member of society. It's to be the best person I can be. I don't need a creator or a higher power to have meaning. I think it's sad if your life has no meaning without a higher power.

I don't wake up with questions as to why we are here. I don't wonder WHY, because I'm convinced that it's honestly just chance that we were born. As to the purpose of life, I don't think that there's a HIGHER purpose, but that's not to mean that we can't or shouldn't MAKE a purpose. Life would not be pleasurable if you don't attempt to make your life have purpose.

No. I already know the purpose. The same thing as everything else. To live and die. Thats it.
No, its not a sad way to live at all. It means I value this life instead of thinking "Things will be better in Heaven" or "Things will be better in the next life". It means each and every minute of every day is something to love and cherish and to live to the fullest.
Living it DOES NOT mean the self absorption of only caring for myself. It means truly living it. Enjoying the sun on my face, the sound of my nephews laughter, the color and scent of a rose, and the taste of ice cream. And it means appreciating it for what it truly is, for all itself, rather than blaming it on something else.
You see, I have no god to praise, or devil to blame, so the responsibility of my life falls solely on myself.
I don't expect anyone else (or anything else) to fix any problems for me.
There's a certain peaceful freedom associated with it all.
I don't decieve myself with platitudes.

No not at all. I think my life does have a purpose it affects everyone I come in contact with and through them many others. Also without the belief of an afterlife I try to truly enjoy each day that I have and not waste them waiting on something better to come.

Your purpose of life seems to be wait for the afterlife, which will never come. That's quite sad, if you bother to think about it. I don't have a specific purpose of life, any more than a bee or a flower has a purpose. I simply enjoy this life as much as I can.

i'm too busy enjoying my life to worry about what the purpose of it is. i just live my life being a good person, and try to help others whenever possible. and if i can make it through my life and die with people remembering me as a good person then i'll die happy.

I leave it up to religions to try to discern a greater purpose for life. It doesn't matter much to me ... as best I can tell, the meaning of life is simply to live it. I don't find that sad ... I just find it to be the way it is.
