I researched tetanus a few years ago when our son stepped on a nail. Tetanus is found mainly around areas with horse manure. There are a lot of horses & much wind in our area so we took him for a shot. If I were you I'd base my desicion on how deep the wound is and if there's horse manure around your area.

Tetanus shots are suppose to last for ten years. I've heard of someone dying of tetanus after receiving a puncture wound who had a 5 yo tetanus shot. Don't play around with it - if you think you need it, get it!

Every one should have a tetanus booster every ten years. If you haven't had one in ten years or if you can't remember when your last booster shot was then it's time for another one.

I also would like to point out that tetanus kills around 40% of the people who get it and the cure for it often includes emputation. There's no sense in taking chances.

Also, tetanus does not come from rusty objects. The theory is that if an item has been around long enough to be rusty then it's been around long enough to have the tetanus bateria on it. But that doesn't mean that you can only get tetanus from rusty objects.

If you haven't had one in the last 10 years or so, it would be a good idea. The tetanus bacteria does not necessarily ONLY live on metal that looks rusty.

Possibly....it really depends on how long it has been since your last one. Watch the foot for signs of infection. If you start to see redness or streaks of red coming from the area then you need to go in and see the Dr. That could be a sign of infection.

I'm not sure. I think you have to ask whether the item was rusty or not. I had a tetanus shot after impaling my foot on an old rusty nail.

I wouldnt have thought so, but if you are worried make a trip to the docs and ask them when your due for a booster. Tetnus shot will cover you for 10 years, unless you have a serious injury then hospital will give you a shot.
