I understand your sentiment. Bob Marley was a great man with a great message. However, I feel that because of his role as a pop culture figure, and some of his beliefs toward marijuana and sexuality, he will not be able to have this particular honor.

Bob Marley also had a past in which he constantly called for revolution during the period which he was still with the original wailers. He started out much more militant than he ended up in the later, more commercial era of his career. This time might be used against him in some kind of hearing about his candidacy for sainthood, but then again, St. Francis was a womanizer and soldier before he became religious.

Also, there is the issue that he is not Catholic, although he is deeply spiritual. Because of this, if he is canonized, he will not be canonized by the Catholic church. It would have to be a smaller church.

Bob Marley was a great man and his music was inspirational for many, but unfortunately, I doubt we will be so lucky to see him canonized a saint.

If Bob Marley was to be declared a saint then so should John Lennon

As neither were practising Christians though, the chances of them actually becoming saints are remote

Well it is sad when you think that we can declare anyone a saint for having ideas of peace and love. Shouldnt we all be doing that? If more of us did our world wouldnt be in such a damn mess would it?

He must have been real effective. I heard of him yonks ago but nothing about his ideas on peace and love. Are there any confirmed miracles that he performed?

No, but he should be respected for his devotion to those ideals.

Sainthood is a made up concept by organized religions to server their doctrine and has no basis in reality.

A person is a saint (sanctified) when they are a follower of Jesus Christ. NOT when an organization declares them one.
