At the Second Coming of Christ, the first resurrection will be of those righteous saints to be caught up into the presence of Jesus Christ. Their bodies from the graves or wherever they might be, will reunite with their spirits to become immortal.
The second resurrection will come after the 1,000 years, or commonly called the Millenium, where the Lord will reign, temple ordinances will be performed by mortals with the help of those that had passed on before, and the earth will reside in peace. After this 1,000 years, the wicked will then be resurrected and Satan will be unleashed again for a season.
Then the world will change into its celestial form.

The reason for two resurrections is very simple. First, mankind does not have an 'immortal soul'. Believer and non-believer both go to the grave (hell) to await their resurrection. Second, not everyone has received the Life of Christ in them and must be given that opportunity. (what about all the people who never heard of Jesus, or rejected Him?). The difference between Believers and non-believersis: Believers are born twice and die once; non-believers are born once and die twice... from the second death there is no resurrection. The wages of sin is eternal Death... not eternal Life in an "ever-burning hell".
As for the time involved for each resurrection, that's up to God. But, some will be resurrected as spirit beings and some back to physical beings. All creation will be reconciled(restored to harmony) with God. This is God's perfect plan and nothing can change it. Read 1 Corinthians 15.
There is physical DNA and spiritual DNA. To the caterpillar it's the end, to the butterfly it's the beginning. God loves us and there's not a darn thing we can do about.

If you read about the first resurrection, you see that it starts during Christ's presence. The resurrected ones are the Saints or the Born Again. The last of these shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye right after the great tribulation.
These Saints will become heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Jesus and be kings and priests over God's kingdom together with Christ in heaven. They receive immortality.
The second group consist of Acts 24:15, the righteous and the unrighteous -- these shall be resurrected to an earthly life. The unrighteous get the resurrection of judgment. Thus if they do not become Christians after their resurrection but continue living unrighteously -- they shall be killed and go to Gehenna.
When will these be resurrected? There is some difference of opinion on this among many Christians. That is because there is a difficult set of scriptures that many interpret variedly.
Personally, I believe -- and will show why if asked -- that these shall be resurrected during the thousand year reign of Christ.
These shall eventually -- if they aren't killed -- receive eternal life on earth.
The explanation is a bit long and tedious.

All the dead are either in Heaven or Hell, you are correct. However, the 3 days of darkness are coming. At that time all the living and the dead will be judged/rejudged. The demons of Hell will be unleashed upon the whole earth and those that do not believe will suffer and die. It's rumored that only 25% of todays population, who truly believe in God and his teachings, will survive. Any non belivers who stay with the belivers will change drastically and will indeed believe after this event. It will be a nightmare, but the way the world is going today, I believe more and more that it will be necessary.

You have your information just a little backwards...
EVERYONE IS ASLEEP UNTIL THE DAY OF JUDGMENT....
that means everyone.....
no one is in heaven, no one is in hell......
(the 24 elders in heaven around the throne of God could be Abraham, Moses, etc..)
The First Resurrection will be when Christ returns the second time to gather all who are his....those who are asleep in the grave and those who are alive...will be caught up and join him in the air.....we shall be changed in an instant and only then shall we receive the immortal soul...
(a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like unto a day) there may be a gap of time...
The Second Resurrection will be of the lost....the lost,Satan and all his fallen angels will attempt a final attack on the kingdom of God.......
God seated upon his throne will rise over the walls of the heavenly city and the light of his glory will destroy all who are of the second Resurrection.....
I condensed it alot.....check out amazingfacts.com

There are two resurrections the Bible does not say however, how long appart they would be, the first resurrection is for those that will go to heaven to rule over the earth with Jesus Christ, and the second resurrection is for those who will stay on the earth(Matthew5:5 ; Psalm37:11,29)

We will be changed and have new bodies. Our souls go to God when we die but our bodies decay along with all of creation (including heaven) until the New Heaven and New Earth is established.
