It's not that hard. Your left hand fingers will hurt at first, and you cannot have long, pretty nails on your left hand. You also need time to practise. Nylon strings are easier on the fingers but steel strings give a brighter sound. Get a book of chord shapes. Learn 2 or 3. A D E are good Practise on one, then another, then learn to change between the two. There are lots of songs out there in just those chords. Theye are the key of A If you learn the chord of G as well, you have the key of D, which is D G A. SWongs like Going to the Zoo. He's got the Whole World in His Hands. Johnny B Goode. Hound Dog. Blue Suede Shoes etc all use these chords. 3 weeks if you can practise enough. Hope this helps.

I learned to play on my own, without lessons. It took about a year, and I made the most progress when I had other players around to help me out.

That being said, I would always suggest instruction if it is available (it wasn't in my case). You will avoid a lot of bad habits that I'm sure I still have to this day (I've been playing about 34 years now).

the most important thing is your will to learn

Different people may face different difficulty in learning it, and they catch up at different pace, but a person who doesn't have the real interest in it may give up after investing in a guitar and few months of frustrating learning.

If you're really into it, how difficult it may be for you is hard to tell, but I'm sure you'll learn in eventually. Just practice alot.

I would recommend lessons. Most music stores have a guy who gives lessons in the back.

Learn "Horse With No Name" by America (Or what is Seals and Croffs?). That's the easiest song ever and really cool.

Your average dope smokers seem to be able to play the guitar.

Yes, you should get lessons.
