Very common.(aka Pin Worms) Lots of kids get them. They come out at night, you feel them around the rectum. You can take the tape test. Take a piece of clear tape, place it to your rectum and you will see tiny white pin size specs.
There is OTC products but it is more effective if you get a prescription for vermox 100mg. Take 1 pill then repeat in 2 weeks. The entire house hold may need to be treated, this is very contagious. remember to wash sheets and clothing.

You've got "Thread Worm". Usually, these are common in dogs and cats but humans can get them easily enough. Children tend to be the most prone as they will stroke any animal that will allow them to do so. The cycle of the "Thread Worm" is eggs hatch in the intestines and the worms pass through to the anus. The worms lay their eggs around the anus and cause itching. The animal then tries to relieve the itching through cleaning the area thus picking up the new eggs, on it's tongue. The eggs then pass through to the intestines for the cycle to start again. As animals also clean other parts of the body, the eggs can easily be picked up through stroking the fur. The child then eats something (sweets, crisps, fruit etc.) with his / her hands and passes the eggs into his / her mouth and starts the cycle going. The child will scratch where it itches and pick up some eggs and then handle a plate, cup etc. which somebody else uses and the "Thread Worm" is passed on again. There are two treatments for this. The first is in tablet form and the second is a powder which is used to make a drink with. The most effective is the tablet form. However, make sure you only get worm treatments from a Pharmacist (for humans) and a pet shop / vet for animals. It is extremely important that you do NOT use animal worming tablets for humans as they are different. If you have pets (cats and / or dogs) it is critical that yopu get some worm powder / tablets for them and treat them at the same time. "Thread Worm" is easily avoidable through simply worming your pets every 6 months, as a routine and a preventative. You don't need to see a Doctor but it might be best to ask your Pharmacist for the best up-to-date treatment before making a purchase.

you poor thing, it must be painful.. you can go to the chemist and get over the counter treatment for it.. The over the counter treatment should work for you. if it doesn't (which there is a tiny chance it won't) you could go to your doctor and get something prescribed off them.. And no, they don't necessarily have to look there.

Good luck
